The findings from a global eye health survey show many challenges to maintaining vision health. We know vision is essential and understand regular exams are needed to protect, but less than half of us get them. Johnson & Johnson Vision commission the survey. #eyecare

You may have vision problems or something physically abnormal with your eyes, but the cause may lie elsewhere. It’s not unusual for patients to have complaints about how their eyes look or that their vision is off, but they’re just side effects of issues elsewhere. You won’t have a fully functioning brain without healthy blood flow, reports Parade magazine.

Do you have floaters in your vision? These squiggly and sometimes annoying lines and shapes you see are, in most cases, a harmless sign of aging. If they’ve become more noticeable or are suddenly an issue, let us know. They might be a sign of a condition that needs to be addressed. As we age, the center of our eyes, or vitreous, shrinks.

Leaving your house these days means a whole new normal. Needing to make sure if you have your mask, your gloves, and hand sanitizer? Now because of masks, millions of eyeglass wearers are discovering the annoyance of mask-induced foggy lenses. Why do glasses fog up in the first place? Here’s the simple science behind it. When warm air hits a cool surface, condensation can form. #EyeCareInfo #Glasses #Sunglasses

Smoking can lead to eye conditions that could result in vision loss or blindness. Two that are most related to smoking are age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts. If you smoke, stop before your habit causes any number of medical conditions. If you’re diagnosed with AMD or cataracts, stop before your vision gets worse. #Agerelatedmaculardegeneration #Cataracts #SmokingandVision

A long-term diet low in carbohydrates but high in fat and protein from vegetables could lower the risk of developing the most common subtype of glaucoma. A New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai researcher (NYEE) helped discover that if at-risk groups stick to these dietary limits, their risk of developing a type of glaucoma could be reduced by 20 percent.

An eating disorder that renders a person severely deficient in some vitamins, or being malnourished due to poverty, can rob a person of his or her sight. A case study published last year of a British teen blinded by his limited diet goes to show how vital a healthy, well-balanced diet is to vision health. #DietandEyeSight

Macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy have something in common. Although the indirect causes may be different, a consequence of untreated AMD or untreated diabetes is similar. Untreated, both conditions may result in macular bleeding, in which abnormal blood vessels develop (angiogenesis) that leak fluid or blood into the macula. #AMD #Antiinflammatory #diabetes #DiabeticEye #Diabeticretinopathy #eyecare #EyeCareInfo #eyedisease #MacularDegeneration #MacularHole #News #Research

There are few sports where your ability to see doesn’t matter. Whether it’s video games, golf, baseball or racing, you need to see well to play well. Prescription glasses, goggles, LASIK, or photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) surgery may be options, depending on your vision challenges, your age, and your sport. Many sports are shut down due to social distancing. #Lasikandsportsperformance #sportsandeyeprotection

Pink eye (or conjunctivitis) is very common. It’s a minor issue most of the time, but sometimes it can be a symptom of something more serious. It’s usually caused by the inflammation or an infection of the transparent membrane (conjunctiva) covering your eyelid and the white of your eye. If small conjunctiva blood vessels swell, they’re easier to see. #Conjunctivitis(pinkeye) #PinkEye

Blinking is something we all do every minute, whether we think about it or not. The average person blinks 15-20 times per minute, or about 1,200 times per hour. So why do we unconsciously move our eyelids over our eyeballs so many times? Because it’s extremely important for your eyes and vision. #blinking #Cornea #DryEyes #EyeCareInfo #EyeHealth
