Do you love the shore? Do you travel to any of the Jersey beaches during the summer months? Do you visit NJ periodically for shopping or dining? If you do, pay attention to what I am about to tell you. It's important and many people do not know this tidbit of information. If you have an automobile accident in the State of New Jersey, per NJ law, you automatically have "Limited Tort", regardless of your selection of the "Full Tort" option on your auto policy in Pennsylvan...ia. I REPEAT: Despite paying for Full Tort in PA, you automatically have Limited Tort. There is only one exception to the rule; one exception that would allow for your PA policy to prevail with "Full Tort". That exception is if your auto carrier does not write insurance in the State of New Jersey. There are surprisingly few companies on that list. If you would like to know if your auto insurance carrier writes insurance in the State of New Jersey, call me @ (215) 288-7077. I have a list of companies who write insurance in NJ. If your carrier is on that list, that means that your "Full Tort" option does not apply in the State of New Jersey. Drive carefully and be safe!

Let's discuss auto insurance. Are you "fully insured"? Do you have "full coverage"? Do you know exactly what those terms entail? Most people don't. More importantly, it does not mean you have the right coverage to protect yourself and your family. Being "fully insured" or having "full coverage" simply means that you carry the state required coverage. The coverage(s) that protect you are add-ons and are usually not offered by your insurance agent - unless you specifically a...sk for them. You must carry UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED MOTORIST COVERAGE. While they are an additional charge on your premium, they are 100% necesarry, If you have more than one car, be sure to STACK the coverage. This is also an additional charge, but very minimal. You could be struck by a car while a pedestrian and not be covered; or if the at-fault driver does not have any insurance or has limited coverage. Uninsured Motorist Coverage and Underinsured Motorist Coverage protect YOU. Liability coverage protects the other vehicle should you be at-fault, it does not cover you. Don't guess at what coverage you need and don't let your insurance agent guide you. Call our office today and let us review your insurance policy with you to make sure you are fully covered. Are you familiar with your PA auto insurance policy? Did you know you have options for many of the coverages? Insurance Agents often do not explain or offer you the opportunity to purchase "extra" coverages if you don't ask for them. Know what you are giving up before you sign any "waivers" or "buy downs" in coverage. Make informed decisions as to which coverages you want/need. Don't let someone else decide for you! It should be your decision and yours alone.

Happy Monday! Today's tidbit of information involves Child Support/Custody in Pennsylvania. When you receive a "Final Order" of Child Support and/or Custody in PA, does that mean that the matter is ended permanently? The answer is a resounding No! In PA, Court Orders for Child Support and/or Custody are ALWAYS MODFIABLE as are provisions for Child Support and/or Custody that are incorporated into a Property Settlement Agreement as part of an underlying Divorce.... Changes in circumstances could allow for changes in prior Orders. It is always advisable to have your Order(s) reviewed periodically to ensure that you are receiving/paying the proper amount of child support, or that the custody arrangements are still working and in the best interests of your child(ren).

May 2, 2019 represents the 40th anniversary of my admission to the practice of law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. For a Northeast Philly boy, I have been honored to have been able to serve the people of Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery and Delaware Counties from my office in the great Northeast by the Oxford Circle. I have truly been blessed to be able to provide for the communities legal needs, whether it be in the area of personal injuries (motor vehicle accidents, s...lip & falls), estate planning (Wills, Living Wills, Powers of Attorney) or domestic relations matters including divorce, support, custody & adoption, or general business and/or real estate matters. I look forward to continuing to serve the local community and being of assistance to my wonderful neighbors and clients. There is never a charge for the initial consultation. Did you know that as of January 2, 2005, common law marriage has been abolished in Pennsylvania. That means that Pennsylvania does not recognize any common law marriage entered into after January 2, 2005. However, couples who entered into a common law marriage before January 2, 2005, are still recognized as married.

With summer pool parties and barbeques in full swing, make sure that you not only maintain Homeowners Insurance, but that you have enough coverage. If you have a pool, trampoline, pitbull (or other large breed dog), etc., you may be required to carry additional coverage. Check with your insurance agent to make sure that you have the coverages you need and/or an umbrella policy, if necessary.

Do you have life insurance? Do you need it? You may not need it, or, you may not need as much as you think you do.
