Today is World Mental Health Day. In recognition of this observance and as part of our work to increase access to important education, we are proud to support the World Health Organization’s campaign to make mental health care accessible for all and encourage public action around the world. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that the percentage of adults with symptoms of an anxiety or a depressive disorder increased from 36.4% to 41.5% between August... 2020 and February 2021, and the percentage of individuals reporting an unmet mental health care need increased from 9.2% to 11.7%. The data underscores the urgency and importance of mental health resources and support. Kristy initially joined NACCME in 2019 before becoming a member of the Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Learning Network (PBHLN) team in January 2021. In her professional responsibilities, Kristy consistently goes above and beyond and is always eager to lend a helping hand. Her superior customer service efforts, expertise of products and services, and tremendous work ethic do not go unn...oticed among colleagues and industry sponsors alike. In fact, as a result of her sales efforts and management support to the team, Kristy has been instrumental in achieving a record-breaking year for the psychiatry portfolio. My favorite thing about working for HMP Global is knowing my team and I provide exceptional Psych and Behavioral Health education as we ensure this space gets the attention it needs and deserves, says Kristy. I also enjoy collaborating with our team onsite at our meetings to learn from some of the highest-ranked psych professionals in the world! Outside of work, Kristy moonlights as a real estate agent and a competitive dancer who has won numerous competitions. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer is now the most common cancer globally accounting for 12% of all new annual cancer cas...es worldwide. In 2021, nearly 282,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the United States, along with nearly 2,700 new cases of invasive breast cancer in men. Although there is no known cure for breast cancer, research demonstrates the importance of early diagnosis and increased awareness in the path to remission. The most rewarding experience of SAWC is the amount of people I am able to connect with on both a professional and personal level, says Tori. Recently, Mary-Ann received the 2021 President’s Award from the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPIPHL), an award which is given to an individual who has positively contributed to the hospitality industry. This achievement recognized Mary-Ann’s work in spearheading the Pandemic Compliance Advisor (PCA) course, a newly created industry certificate course for ...Meeting Professionals that promotes attendee safety at in-person events. Mary-Ann commented that this course was designed to be something that could carry on, support, and help our industry to operate during, or come back from, a pandemic. Mary-Ann has been a member of MPIPHL since 2005 and earned the accolade of 2009 Chapter Leader of the Year. It is truly an honor to be thought well by your peers, and this is something I did not expect, said Mary-Ann. While some might now feel that pandemic restrictions are lifted, the Pandemic Compliance Advisor course and the education that people gained will endure.
