Lily's Flower Stand 03.01.2021

Here’s the dress & coat! I love that the First Lady included the flowers of every state and territory, and the Delaware state flower is sewn close to her heart! Who remembers the state flower of Pennsylvania?

2020 in Review on Lily’s Flower Stand: As we finish out 2020, there’s an impatience to turn that calendar page! We all want to move forward into 2021, towards a future with hope and normalcy. But it may be even more important this year to take stock of what we are grateful for in 2020: what we learned, ways we came together and stood strong, how we have been resilient. ... So, here at Lily’s Flower Stand, we want to say thank you for 2020! Every member of our family is involved in this little venture and this year especially we are grateful for your business and your referrals. Our following doubled in 2020 and our sales increased by 50%. Our popular subscription service sold out for 2020 and for 2021! Mostly, we are grateful for your trust that we could fill the void of this year with fresh locally grown flowers. Flowers you sent to friends and loved ones whose companionship you missed. Flowers you sent to aging parents in long term care who couldn’t safely see their loved ones. Flowers you sent to the Class of 2020. Flowers you sent to thank essential workers. Flowers you sent to brighten people struggling at home alone. We are honored when you chose our flowers to decorate happy picnics and solemn remembrances. And we especially love the devoted husbands sending tokens of their love but also the women who buy flowers for themselves, to lift their mood and beautify their space. Thank you all! You won’t hear very much of us over the next three months - we’ll be hibernating and hope you too will lay low and stay safe till we can see you in the Spring! But for these last three days of 2020, I’ll be featuring the most popular posts of 2020 - the top 9 posts, three on each of the 2020 remaining days. Thanks for following along on the recollection. How sweet is this? President Biden didn’t forget to recognize his love tonight. Jill’s evening ensemble was gorgeous, a designer dress embroidered with each of the state flowers. And on her wrist, a large white rose corsage from Joe. https://www.marieclaire.com//jill-biden-outfit-inaugurati/

And our #1 post of 2020 was this May announcement that our flower cart was finally open for the season! We can't wait to see you again in 2021! In the meantime, stay safe, stay hopeful, stay happy. Happy New Year!

This pretty tub of flowers was our 2nd most popular post of 2020. I rarely get to create something so lush for our family, but on this day, still in the height of peony season, we got to celebrate the Souderton Area High School Class of 2020. My heart broke for my daughter Grace and her classmates and all they missed of their Senior Year. So on this day the school held a fun car parade and it was the closest thing we got to a graduation event. We had family on the patio for dinner to celebrate and this beautiful tub brightened the day.

This May post was our 5th most popular post of the year. There was something about this pandemic that reminded me of growing up in a simpler time. When I was growing up in the 1970s, we stayed home a lot. We had family meals cooked by mom and we lingered over family discussions at the table. We had family game nights and family movie nights with popcorn. And all those memories came flooding back to me while our family "stayed at home." I think that mood, felt by many, is one of the reasons this Lily of the Valley post was so popular. It is such an old fashioned flower, it reminds us of our mothers and our grandmothers, whether the memory was their gardens or their perfumes. And the way this virus has ravaged the elderly, memories of our mothers and grandmothers have been even more cherished.

This July post was our 4th most reacted post of 2020. I wish it wasn't so, because this was a post in memoriam of our flower farmer role model, Bob Landis, who passed away following a battle with cancer. Farmer Bob is dearly missed in the community. I was honored that Bob's widow, Mary, chose a Lily's arrangement to grace the Salford Mennonite Church service honoring Bob's life - see the comments.

This late May post was our 6th most popular post of the year. As if we weren't struggling with enough by May, the Spring weather was uncharacteristically cold with our last frost coming on Mother's Day. And so we waited and waited for the peonies. When these first two finally opened, they garnered a lot of appreciative likes on the page!
