Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania will be hosting its annual Dedication Day program virtually this November 19th. Sponsored by the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania, in conjunction with Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg College, the Gettysburg Foundation, and Taps for Veterans, the Dedication Day ceremony is traditionally held in Gettysburg National Cemetery in commemoration of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, whi...ch was delivered in the cemetery on November 19th, 1863. While some of the traditional components of the annual ceremony will be included in the virtual program, this year’s program will feature several new and unique pieces, including a short documentary-style segment about famed African American contralto Marian Anderson’s performance at the 1963 Dedication Day centennial ceremony; a reflection on the Lincoln Fellowship’s One Hundred Nights of Taps, Gettysburg, 2020 program; and a special video recitation of the Gettysburg Address by 31 U.S. citizens from various locations across the country and around the world who have each contributed a line from the famed speech. This year’s rendition of the address celebrates the diverse mosaic of our nation with regards to race, gender, ethnicity, age, region, and profession, while also highlighting the ideals and principles that unite us as Americans. The 30-minute program will be available for viewing on the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania’s website, www.LincolnFellowship.org beginning November 19th. Begun in 1938, the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania honors the memory and legacy of President Abraham Lincoln through the annual commemoration of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address every November 19th, the maintenance of the Return Visit statue on Gettysburg’s historic Lincoln Square, active support for Gettysburg National Military Park’s educational Traveling Trunk program, and the One Hundred Nights of Taps program, which occurs in Gettysburg National Cemetery each summer.
