Corn Husker Deal - deals with Medicaid...basically, my take away from this is that within the next 2-4 yrs, more people in our state will be eligible for this coverage which is funded in part by the Federal Government and the State...so, when numbers of participants increase so does the tab for the state...

2. Any individual who does NOT buy health insurance will be fined 2% of their gross income! ( this is the issue that a group of Attorney Generals are collectively in legal battle over this being unconsitutional - that is to require that people make purchases)

Mandates taking place: 1. Any employer with 50 or more employees must offer employees insurance or pay a $2000 fine per employee ( which folks....might be cheaper than paying for benefits which might be the entire idea behind this part of the legislation which will then fund the pool ( government) and drive people there.

2014: All of the bill is to take effect: Exchanges will be set up by the State to provide a pool of insurers with various types of offers to purchase health insurance from. Mandates taking place:

Insurers, pharmeceutical companies, medical device/ equipment manufacturers and possibly more will have increased taxes applied to them to pay for the billions of dollars of cost for these programs.

Federal Long Term Care Program called CLASS will require every employee to be considered to be enrolled in this at a cost of $60 per month. The benefits are not available until you have paid into the system for 5 years. YOU are able to opt out of this but YOU must take the steps to do this.

2. Insurance Companies will have to report their medical loss ratios and will be required to spend ...85% on medical claims and 15% is left over for every other expense they have. (you draw the conculsion from that requirement!)

Health Care Reform....a brief overview: What is happening in the next 6 months / 2010: 1. A Risk Pool will be set up for the unisurable/ there will be no medical underwriting and there will be no cap or limit to benefits.
