Continuing our #GIS lesson... Step 6: Demographic Analysis Time to sort through hundreds of demographic and business datasets!... LIVIC Civil uses datasets such as population, age, income, spending, education, jobs, supply and demand, crime, etc. The data comes from the US Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Consumer Expenditure Surveys, and other agencies that collect consumer information. For this gas station, we looked at the following variables to take a deeper look at the people and places around the potential sites: 1. Number of people who drove more than 10,000 miles in the last 12 months 2. Number of people who spent more than $100 on gasoline in the last 30 days 3. Number of people who bought a snack, beverage, or lottery ticket at a convenience store in the last 30 days 4. Number of people with a 30 minute or more commute time 5. Number of people ages 18 49 Next, we’ll see what potential site meets the desired demographics. Don't worry - we're almost done! #LIVIC #civilengineering #GIS #guidingthew
