I wish I could tell you that healing is linear, that once you begin to heal, it only gets easier...but that isn’t always the truth. Healing is hard. It requires digging down deep to the hurt and pain and working through all the mess. There will be steps forward, but there will probably be steps backward, too. Keep working on healing though. Children with special needs are some of our most vulnerable in society. Parents entrust that a facility like Devereux is not only going to keep their child safe, but help their child to thrive. Devereux broke the trust of the parents, but most importantly, of the child as well. The lack of oversight, proper policies and training, and failure to take prior incidents seriously led to horrific abuse over the course of several years. This has to stop.
