This Sunday begins Burn Awareness Week. Although the survival rate for burns in the contemporary era are very good, the long-term effects can be physically and mentally debilitating. Some statistics suggest Americans spend more than $40 BILLION annually on burn treatment. On average, a moderate burn can require the patient to stay in the hospital for 54 days to receive adequate treatment. If your interested in learning how you can prevent burns and provide initial first aid, see our presentation under "Videos" entitled "Occupational Fire Safety: Burn Prevention and First Aid." Although this presentation is targeted toward workplace safety, much of it applies to the home as well.
With the impending inclement weather expected over the next couple days, please stay off the roads unless its absolutely necessary to travel. The more the public can reduce their exposure to risk, the less risk responders are exposed to.
