Bees, butterflies...and #bats! Did you know that some bats are pollinators? Almost 300 species of fruits, mainly those found in tropical and desert climates, ar...e pollinated by bats: http://ow.ly/HCwj50C3PRx. These furry flying friends also spread seeds for certain types of nuts, as well as cacao (mmm Halloween chocolate): http://ow.ly/mMtt50C3PRz. Here are nine especially interesting species of bats in the U.S.: http://ow.ly/EsZF50C3PRy. This lesser long-nosed bat is covered in pollen. We are strongly opposed to the misguided decision that the County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee made to move forward with the reckless devel...opment of Miami Wilds, a water park and hotel that will lead to the irreversible decline and possible extinction of the second largest population of Florida bonneted bats - the rarest bat in the United States. The reckless site selection will cause devastation for the Florida bonneted bat and other species within the area. The project will be reviewed at the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners’ meeting on October 6 for final vote. We will be there and will continue to oppose the siting of this project at Zoo Miami as it will destroy a rare habitat and is illegal per the Endangered Species Act. - Mike Daulton, Executive Director of BCI. https://www.batcon.org/reckless-miami-wild/
