Party People, we miss you!!! Starting renovations on our current home next month! Dear folks, An artist’s request to the community Now that we’ve been left to fall through the cracks of the jobseeker assistances scheme by the government, we... artists ask that you do not suggest that we make something or start something or write something or get something on line. This is not only painfully condescending, but also deeply demoralizing. We arts workers are professionals, some with masters and doctorate degrees. We have entertained, inspired, moved, perplexed and engaged millions of people here and abroad. We have shaped and defined Australian identity through songs, poems, jokes, plays, films, paintings, novels, games, and countless other forms of art that transform us and define us. And we will continue to do this forever more. In crisis and in health. So don’t tell us how to suck eggs. Instead, tell us that you’ll be with us on the other side. Reflect on what the arts means to you. What song was there when you had your first kiss, what artist you turned to when someone broke your heart, which actor blew your mind and performed your life, what band left you floating at a concert, when you sweated your ass of on the dance floor, when your belly flipped watching a circus performer, what comedian still makes you smile, what book you can’t get over, what TV show you binged till the wee hours, what film changed your life. And tell your friends to do the same. And then, write to your MP to tell them about it. Help us. Be with us, lobby, but don’t patronize us. The ideas, the art making, the hustling the networking, that bit, we have covered. And we know your ideas come form a good place, but please, don’t.
