All of us benefit from access to clean water, and it’s our shared responsibility to ensure clean water exists now and for future generations. Despite that, the promise of clean water doesn’t exist for many Pennsylvanians, including those living in the Susquehanna and Potomac River Basins. A new report from PennFuture is hoping to change that. Read more here: https://bit.ly/3rQ1YUJ

This video by Exelon is as fake as it gets. The dam was built in 1928 and has been trapping sediment and pollutants behind it for about hundred years. Exelon has mischaracterized their dam operations and have said the dam has served as best management practice for the chesapeake Bay. That is 100% false, the dam serves to produce power and that’s it. It also inhibits the migration of anadromous and catadromous fish species. If Exelon wants to claim that the dam is a BMP then... they should be performing regular maintenance in their reservoir aka dredging to keep their so called bmp up to snuff. The dam is at what’s called dynamic equilibrium meaning there is no trapping capacity left in the reservoir. It is a loaded cannon aimed right for the bay whenever we have storm events scour occurs and deposits what’s there to the lower Susquehanna River and chesapeake Bay. If we ever get a storm like Agnes in 1972, mark my words the chesapeake Bay is dead from scour occurring at the dam and all the other dams upriver in addition to what is already coming down. The truth is this, Exelon drives tremendous profits in the billions from the conowingo reservoir (muddy run, peach bottom and conowingo). They must be held accountable to pay their fair share of cleanup costs and that includes dredging for monopolizing this river. This video is a load of crap in saying there are no benefits to dredging that’s 100% false. In fact, there is company that can come there hydraulically dredge privately finance and build a reuse facility to process the sediment and turn it into light weight aggregate. Their technology allows them to repurpose 100% of what they dredge and also remove 100% of the pollutants, they also have technology that gives them real time data on reductions in both nitrogen and phosphorus that would count towards achieving the Conowingo Watershed Implementation Plan (CWIP). Dredging must occur to remove a certain amount which offsets what is coming down to have an overall net reduction in what’s behind the dam. Remember it’s not a matter of IF we get that big storm like Agnes, but when. The dam is a ticking time bomb...and Exelon needs to step up and show that they are good stewards and pay their fair share in mitigating the effects of their operations to the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay. And yes of course PA and NY need to reduce their contribution of sediment and pollutants to the bay and they are doing that but need a lot of help. If anyone wants to debate anything or you need more information on anything Conowingo please feel free to contact Ted Evgeniadis - Riverkeeper. The Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association has been working on the relicensing of Conowingo Dam for over 11 years since 2009. If you want to share this post please copy and paste this text too otherwise you’re just sharing Exelon propaganda. See more

Penn State Master Watershed Stewards, York County and very talented local artists met today to complete some storm drain in part of the Street2Creek project in York City. This project is in its 3rd year and there is artwork all around the city now. These painted drains are a way of communicating that our streams and rivers must be protected and we all play a part in reducing pollutants and plastics from entering our waterways. Come check out their great work. Nice job! #onlyraininthedrain #street2creek #codoruscreek #susquehannariver
