(Peters) Kemp, 87, formerly of Kutztown; Lyon Station; Zellwood Station, FL; and Keystone Villa, Blandon; who died peacefully, Friday, April 2, 2021, in Devon House, Allentown. She was the widow of John K. Kemp, who died August 23, 2002. Born in Fogelsville, Lehigh County, Jean was a daughter of the late Russell N. and Laura M. (Wertman) Peters. She was a member of Zion's Union Church, Maxatawny. Jean was first employed as a nurse's aide at The... Lutheran Home at Topton, for six years. Then, she was employed from 1970 until her retirement in 1988 as a unit clerk at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. Jean enjoyed playing golf, in fact, so much that she and John had moved to Florida so that they could enjoy the game year round. They resided there for over ten years. She also enjoyed hymn sings and traveling. Jean is survived by a son, David A. Shade, husband of Kathleen M. Castelli, Clementon, NJ; two step daughters: Alys M. (Kemp), widow of John T. Robertson, Spring Township; Ann L. (Kemp), wife of Gary Rollman, Reading; There is also a sister, Roma I. (Peters), wife of Arthur Sell, New Tripoli. Other survivors include three grandchildren: Jason D. A., husband of Gina (Tranquillo) Shade; Jonathan P. Shade; and Taylor, husband of Stephanie (Bobst) Robertson; four great grandchildren: Madison and Harrison Shade; and Lucas and Dylan Robertson. In addition to her beloved husband John, and her parents, Jean was predeceased by a son, Ronald L. Shade, January 30, 2013, a sister, Arlene P. (Peters) Moyer; and a brother, Donald R. Peters. A memorial service to celebrate Jean's life will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Jeffrery J. In Loving Memory of Samantha Grace "Sammy" Sessions, 23, of Rockland Township, who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at home. Born in Sellersville, Sammy was a daughter of Timothy J. and Joyce E. (Voigt) Sessions and companion and life partner of Steve Morelli, all with whom she resided. She was a 2015 graduate of Brandywine Heights High School, Mertztown. Sammy had a love and passion for horses. She would rescue and rehabilitate them, restore their quality... of life, and adopt them to new families. She also loved horseback riding, four-wheeling, skiing and snowboarding. Her infectious smile and personality will be missed by her family and friends. Sammy was the proud and loving Mommy to Elijah Capasso, age 3 and Luna Harmony Morelli, 10 months. She is also survived by her siblings, Danielle Showers, Douglassville, Elizabeth Showers, Topton, Zachary Sessions, Philadelphia, E. Annie Sessions, Virginia Beach, VA, and Timothy Sessions II, Portsmouth, VA; maternal grandfather, Robert Voigt, Schwenksville; and several nieces and nephews. In Loving Memory of our Dear Friend and Colleague, Reverend Roger M. Ulrich. Reverend Roger M. Ulrich, 77, of Wyomissing, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 29, 2021 in Tower Health - Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading, after a sudden cardiac incident that occurred on Friday evening. He was the loving husband of Ming H. (Hsu) Ulrich, whom he married on September 14, 1967. Born in Reading, Roger was a son of the late Robert B. Ulrich and Kathryn M. (War...tluft) Ulrich Coldsmith. He was a 1962 graduate of Reading High School, where he was a reporter for the school newspaper. Shortly thereafter, Roger worked as a Disc Jockey on station WRAW. He then enlisted into The United States Air Force, where he served honorably and faithfully during the Vietnam War. While stationed in Taiwan, he met the love of his life, Ming, a native of China. Upon his discharge from the service, Roger and Ming, with their newborn daughter, moved back to Berks County and Roger continued his love for radio as a talk show host on WRAW, and later as a reporter for The Reading Eagle company. He attended and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Alvernia University with his Master's in Divinity, and Lancaster Theological Seminary, where he became an ordained minister. He served as Pastor of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Topton, and Christ (DeLong) United Church of Christ, Bowers, for 13 years, until his retirement on May 31, 2020. After his retirement, Reverend Ulrich became a member of Bausman Memorial United Church of Christ, Wyomissing. Roger enjoyed reading books, serving others including Goodwill Industries International, and managing the Brandywine Food Pantry at St. Peter's UCC. In addition to his wife of 53 years, Ming, Roger is survived by his three children, Susan L. (Ulrich), wife of Joseph Trapasso, Arlington, VA, Tina M. Ulrich, Dallas, TX, and Robert M., husband of Jennifer C. (Dickens) Ulrich, Sinking Spring; five grandchildren, Chase M., Tyler A., and Tyson J. Ulrich and Aidan J. and Royce M. Trapasso. In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth R. Ulrich in 1946. A funeral service to honor and celebrate Roger's life will be held on Monday, April 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Bausman Memorial United Church of Christ, 1064 Penn Avenue, Wyomissing, with Reverend Mark Johnson officiating. Burial, with military honors will conclude the services in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. A visitation will be held on Monday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. in the church. In Loving Memory of Joel T. Beck, 67, of Topton, died on Monday, March 29, 2021, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where he was a patient several days. Born in Kutztown, Joel was a son of the late Glenn R. Beck, Sr. and Althea D. (Stein) Beck Snyder. Joel was a member of Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kutztown. Joel was employed as a pattern maker for the former Kutztown Foundry, Kutztown; he was also employed at the former Beck's Feed and Grain, Kut...ztown. Joel was a talented musician, playing guitar and singing vocals in several bands in the area. Joel also was a collector and a demonstrator of guitars. He was a member of the Kutztown Rod & Gun Club, Kutztown; and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Kutztown. Joel is survived by two brothers: Glenn R., Jr., husband of Deborah A. (Arnold) Beck, Palmyra, Lebanon County; and Dwight B., husband of Linda (Brandt) Beck, Maxatawny. In addition to his parents, Joel was predeceased by a sister, Melanie A. Beck, who died July 28, 1979. In Loving Memory of Wassel Louis Budnick, 79 of Topton, Pennsylvania who passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 1, 2021 in St. Luke's University Health Network - Allentown Campus. He was the husband of Verna F. (Goba) Budnick. They were married on October 8, 1966 in Pottsville, PA. Born in Minersville, PA, Wassel was a son of the late Catherine Bonchalk and Metro Budnick. He was 1959 graduate of Minersville High School. After graduation, Wassel honorably and faithfully s...erved his country as a veteran of the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963. Mr. Budnick was employed by the Garden State Tannery, Fleetwood, PA for 40 years until his retirement in 2003. His interests included going on cruises, bus trips to the casino and spending time with family and his grandkids. In addition to his spouse of 54 years, Verna, Wassel is survived by his two daughters, Michele L. (Budnick), wife of Jonathan Jewell, East Bangor, PA and Katherine (Budnick), wife of John L. Lancy, San Antonio, TX; and his three grandchildren, Conner Jewell, Sarah Lancy, and Abigail Lancy. Balthaser, 94, formerly of Kutztown and most recently a resident of The Lutheran Home at Topton, who passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the widower of Edith M. (George) Balthaser who died on July 4, 2018 and whom he married on July 22, 1950. Born in Greenwich Township, PA, Luther was a son of the late Walter W. and Verna C. (Christ) Balthaser and was a member of Saint Paul's United Church... of Christ, Kutztown. After his schooling, Luther worked on the family farm until his enlistment in the United States Army. After his time in the service, Luther was employed by Suburban Gas Company, Lenhartsville, for 29 years until his retirement in 1989. Luther enjoyed home improvement projects around his home and going for breakfast. Luther is survived by his son, Brian E. Balthaser, fiancé of Martha Blackwood, Topton, son-in-law, Robert W. Schanzer, Glen Allen, Virginia, widower of predeceased daughter, Gail R. (Balthaser) Schanzer, who died February 16, 2014; and three grandchildren, Bradley and Kyle Balthaser, and Dylan Schanzer. He was the longtime companion of Nancy Kehris with whom he resided. Born on the family farm in Greenwich Township, Sterling was a son of the late Carl E. and Evelyn F. (George) Christman and was a 1965 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. Sterling was employed as a truck driver for East Penn Manufacturing ...Co., Inc., Lyons for 10 years until his retirement. Prior to that, he was employed by the former Stroh Brewing Company, Fogelsville, for 27 years. He also worked on the family farm all his life and took great pride in doing so. Sterling was an avid hunter and loved to be outdoors. He enjoyed spending Saturday mornings at Renninger's Famers Market in Kutztown with his sons and taking care of his four-leged companion, Sasha. In addition to his companion of over 30 years, Nancy, Sterling is survived by his two sons, Jody A. Christman, fiancé of Tammy Waite, Orwigsburg and Kevin S. Christman, Fleetwood; and his four grandchildren, Sean, Ian, Katlyn and Kiera. In addition to his parents, Sterling was predeceased by his brother, Carl W. Christman in 2015 and an infant sister. In Loving Memory of Joan L. Polischeck, 90, formerly of Gilbertsville, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, in Lehigh Valley Hospital. Born in Altoona, PA, Joan was the eldest daughter of the late Arthur I. and Thelma B. (Walls) Gutshall.Joan was the strong, remarkable matriarch of her family. She was an amazing devoted mother adored by her three children. She was also a cherished, beloved Nanny to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family m...eant the world to her and they were her proudest accomplishment. Joan had the most giving heart and spoiled her grandchildren and great grandchildren every chance she had. Everyone who met Joan was touched by her welcoming presence and fell in love with her beautiful soul. She was always laughing, smiling and sharing stories about her childhood and life with her family and friends. Joan loved to cook and feed everyone around her, she believed that good food made with love brought everyone together to make great memories. At a young age, Joan became passionate about music and had a beautiful voice. She grew up singing with her family around the piano. In her later years, she cherished singing and harmonizing her favorite tunes with her grandchildren. Joan retired from Mrs. Smith's Frozen Foods after 20 years of service. She loved her job and was adored by her co-workers. Joan is survived by a daughter, Diane (Polischeck) Specht, Gilbertsville, and a son, Steven Polischeck, Boyertown. Other survivors include six grandchildren: Jodi Polischeck, Michael Polischeck, Rachelle Polischeck, Jenna (Specht) Campbell, Jacie Specht, and Andrew Polischeck; and fifteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Nancy (Gutshall) Filler. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by a son Harold "Hoppy" Polischeck; a grandson, Jordan Specht; a great grandson, Mason Yerk; and a great grandson, Josiah Williams. She was the widow of James Moss, Sr., who died on April 29, 1995. Born in Longswamp Township, Arline was a daughter of the late Oscar F. and Sallie E. (Hilbert) Moser. Feather, Sr., and Virginia (Stettler) Feather. Painting William was a self-employed painter for many years. He enjoyed watching TV, especially American Pickers and farm shows. He also loved carpentry and mowing grass.... He is survived by his long-time companion of 36 years, Shirley N. (Geisinger) Potzman, with whom he resided; Shirley's children, Lori Keiser, Fleetwood, Tina Buchman, Fleetwood, and Michael Potzman, Mertztown; four step- grandchildren; and four sisters, Lisa, Tina, Cindy and Sue. Geraldine was the widow of Leland M. Sechler, who died May 9, 1986. Born in Kutztown, she was a daughter of the late William and Jennie (Weida) Yoder. Mrs. Sechler was a member of Saint Peter's United Church of Christ, Topton, and attended Grace Lutheran Church while a resident a...t The Lutheran Home. Geraldine was a graduate of the Allentown General Hospital's School of Nursing, receiving a Diploma as a Registered Nurse. She worked for the former Allentown General Hospital, Allentown, for three years, then continued her professional career as a registered nurse in the office of William O. Muehlhauser, M.D., Topton, for over 25 years until her retirement. Geraldine was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, East Penn Chapter 336, Kutztown. Geraldine is survived by two daughters: Judith L. (Sechler), wife of W. Allen Sullivan, Erdenheim, Montgomery County; and Stephany R. (Sechler), widow of Clyde J. Yerger, Fleetwood. Other survivors include four grandchildren: Gregory A. Sullivan; Tracy L. Sullivan; Michael J. Yerger; and Stephen L. Yerger. There are four great grandsons: Joshua M. Yerger; Jack M. Yerger; Luke T. Sullivan; Chase A. Sullivan; and a great granddaughter Fiona R. Sullivan. She was the widow of Willard H. Gernert who died January 17, 2011. Born in Greenwich Township, PA, Pauline was a daughter of the late Victor and Verna (Dietrich) Arndt. She was a member of New Jerusalem Zion United Church of Christ, Lenhartsville (Krumsville) for many years. Pauline w...as employed by the former Wenton Shoe Factory, Kutztown, for 12 years. Most recently, she was a homemaker. Pauline enjoyed watching Uncle Jeffrey on television and collecting all kinds of ladybug items. She was also known for her baking, making many delicious treats for her family and friends to enjoy. Pauline is survived by her three children, Jeffrey L., husband of Kay L. (Himmelberger) Gernert, Lenhartsville, Bruce W., husband of Jeena D. (Fulton) Gernert and Christine L. (Gernert), wife of Robert P. Frey, both of Kutztown; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Amy, Kelly, Lisabeth, Jason, Jenni, Michael and Andrew; and 10 great-grandchildren, Evan, Owen, Ashtyn, Ensley, Samuel, Emily, Caleb, Macen, Ella and Caden. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Ernest Arndt. A funeral service to celebrate and honor Pauline’s life will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, PA, with Reverend Tammie J. Dieruff High School and had been employed by Signature Family Services in Reading for 14 years. She was a member of the Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, Fleetwood, Ray A Master Post 217 Ladies Auxiliary, Mertztown Rod & Gun Club and the Sinnemahoning Sportsman's Club in Cameron County. Ginny enjoyed riding passenger on the motorcycle with Mitch and cherished moments and memories made with family and friends. She also liked camping, four-wheeling and the mountains of Potter and Cameron Counties where she also felt loved and at home with friends. Mostly, she just loved spending time with family and friends and loved to be around children and their laughter. Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are her son, Brian M. of Mertztown, brother Michael R. Crouthamel, husband of Deborah L. of Merrimack, NH, sister Karen L. Crouthamel of Allentown, father-in-law Joseph Zajac of Mertztown and brother-in-law William M. Zajac of Kuwait. He also was an amateur radio operator. In addition to his wife of 71 years, Pauline, Willis is survived by his daughter, Kathleen E. (Moore), wife of Jerry B. Anderson, Mertztown; two grandchildren, Zoe Abeles and Gibson Moore; and a half-brother, Jerome Chapin. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a son Russell P. Moore and a sister, Lois Drew. In Loving Memory of Dorothy R. (Wirtz) Brett, 80, of Kempton, PA, who passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020 in Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest, Allentown. She was the loving wife of James J. Brett, whom she married on June 23, 1962. Born in Schuylkill County and raised in Mahanoy City, Dorothy was a daughter of the late Edmund and Barbara (Schreyer) Wirtz. She was a graduate of Mahanoy City High School and Kutztown State Teacher’s College, now Kutztown University, where... she received her bachelor’s degree in education. Dorothy taught English and Reading in the Wilson School District, West Lawn, PA, and the Northeastern School District, Manchester, PA. She later worked for the Wildlands Conservancy, Emmaus, PA. Dorothy served on the board of the Albany Township Historical Society and was a volunteer at Kempton Fire Company and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time in her garden. In addition to her husband of 58 years, Dorothy is survived by her three children, Christine (Brett), wife of Donald Ryan, Kutztown, Andrew Brett, Kempton and Matthew Brett, husband of Shelby (Rudolph), Lenhartsville; four grandchildren, Cecily Ryan, Michaela Ryan, Mason Brett, and Mitchell Brett.
