Lehigh Valley Breastfeeding Center opens first Breast Milk Dispensary in Pennsylvania!! The Lehigh Valley Breastfeeding Center has been proud to offer a local breast milk depot for the last 2 years and now we have a very special new addition to our services - A BREASTMILK DISPENSARY. As the first breast milk dispensary in Pennsylvania we are part of a national network of breastmilk dispensaries dedicated to increasing access to donor breast milk throughout our communit...ies. We continue to partner with Mid-Atlantic Mothers' Milk Bank to ensure the safety of pasteurized breast milk through screening, processing, and dispensing guidelines established by the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA). The breastmilk depot and donor milk dispensary is located at the Lehigh Valley Breastfeeding Center, on the second floor of the Children's HealthCare Center 1517 Pond Road, Allentown PA 18104. Outpatient donor milk dispensaries play an important role in supporting breastfeeding mothers, in the early days and weeks after birth. Kenneth Toff DO FABM IBCLC, Medical Director of the Lehigh Valley Breastfeeding Center is excited to announce this new dispensary program. Dr Kenneth Toff explained that, "human milk is the best nutrition for infants. When a parent is facing lactation challenges, eg from having a preterm baby, feeding donor milk keeps the baby exclusively fed with human milk. This exclusive human milk feeding can help prevent many concerns, most importantly, decreasing the incidence of Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC), while providing a bridge to successful breastfeeding." "There are many reasons mothers may need donor breastmilk" said Dr. Laurie Cohen, IBCLC, Pediatrician and Breastfeeding Medicine Specialist. They may have low milk supply, they might be temporarily taking a medication contraindicated with breastfeeding, or they may have adopted their newborn. The Lehigh Valley Breastfeeding Center, Dr Toff, Dr Cohen and our Certified Lactation Counselors Tiffany and Molly are here to meet your needs . Do you have extra breastmilk to donate? Are you interested in learning what it takes to be a donor for these special families? Would you like to learn more about ordering human milk for your newborn? Last week marked 2 years since our beautiful daughter Madison was born silently into the world. We have decided every year that we will celebrate her birthday... as a family day - filled with activities she would have loved and celebrating with those who carry her in their hearts every day along with us. This year, we thanked the amazing staff at Riverside Women's Health and New Beginnings Birth Center - Bethlehem with cookies. We also did the following: . . Since we learned about them, one of the things Jena and I had wanted to do in Madison's memory was donate a Cuddle Cot. For those unaware, a Cuddle Cot is an in-room unit specially made to cool baby so families can spend time making arrangements, taking photographs and most importantly, bond with their baby. . . In the last few years, both Bethlehem and Allentown Campuses received Cuddle Cots donated by families who have suffered losses. We are proud to announce that we have donated a Cuddle Cot to the new Women's and Baby Pavilion at St. Luke's Anderson Campus. This means that all 3 St. Luke's Birthing Centers are equipped with Cuddle Cots to support loss families. . . Some may view this as "morbid" or "sad", but this is a very big deal in our community. Most hospitals or birthing centers have nothing. St. Luke's is now able to provide families of loss with support at any of our 3 birthing sites. . . To all who have generously donated: THANK YOU! You continue to help us Move Mountains in her name, and we are so honored to have you along side of us. See more

Stella’s Hearts is a free support group for families who have experienced the loss of a child via miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death. This is an ongoing monthly safe space to share experiences, process feelings, and begin to find healing. Pregnancy loss and the death of a baby can be isolating and seldom talked about. Please join us for our January 7 th 2020 meeting at 6:30 PM.
After an unexpected hiatus, we are proud to reinstate Stella's hearts for all of our returning families and new families for a safe place to have support for our angels gone too soon. Please join us for our December 'holiday' meeting tonight December 3, 2019 at 6:30 PM with light refreshments and a holiday craft in honor of our angels.
