New laws are going into effect in 2021 in PA. One allows robotic deliveries. My husband’s comment to this is, Now you don’t have to work anymore. :)

Blessings on your Christmas and holidays. My Christmas present to you is starting my COVID vaccination in this swirling pandemic to help protect our families, staff, myself and all our friends and families. Keep staying safe. (And a shout out to WellSpan Ephrata for including us in the list of those in the early eligible group).

Are you pregnant and concerned about going to a hospital? Birth centers are an excellent out-of-hospital option for healthy women anticipating a low-risk pregna...ncy and birth. Midwifery-led care in birth centers is time-intensive, relationship-based, and focused on creating an environment where clients feel safe and supported throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. #birthcenters To find a birth center near you, visit https://www.birthcenters.org/find-a-birth-center

ACNM joins other nursing organizations to thank governors who have taken steps to temporarily remove restrictive regulatory practice barriers that impede access... to high-quality, evidence-based care in their states. We remain committed to assisting our affiliates as they work to permanently dismantle restrictive requirements for midwifery practice at the state level. http://ow.ly/3FWZ50zo6SQ

Freestanding birth centers across the country are experiencing an increase in people wanting to transfer to birth centers to avoid the hospital during COVID-19.... We are seeing hospitals and freestanding birth centers working collaboratively to put plans in place in the event hospitals are overwhelmed. Along with so many other changes happening in our lives today, I see this as a positive paradigm shift for freestanding birth centers and maternity care in this country. Research supports the freestanding birth center model and its appropriateness for low-risk women. - AABC President Amy Johnson-Grass, ND, LN, LM, CPM Read the full release here: http://ow.ly/CFWO50yRjjY

Lebanon Valley Birth Center is hiring RN’s to work as part-time employee birth assistants. LPN’s will also be considered if they have significant maternal-child health experience. NOTE: this is a change to previous independent contractor job postings. Birth assistants arrive at our birth center or at the laboring woman's home shortly before birth and stay, most commonly, for about 2.5 hours (home) and 4.5 hours (birth center). Pay: $2/hour of call given (minimum of 24 hours... per month), $28-33/hour for birth assistant work, dependent on experience. We send a weekly email and you tell us what hours you will be available, usually in 4-hour increments or more. We are particularly looking for 11p-7a call. The number of births you attend will depend on the amount of call time given but is unlikely to be more than 2-3/month. Requirements: RN, 2 years’ experience, preferably in one or more of the following areas: birth center, nursery/NICU, ER, and/or labor and delivery. We prefer that you be within a 30-minute drive from the birth center while on call, slightly more may be acceptable. You must be able to give 24 hours of call per month but may give more. You are required to attend at least 3 emergency drills per year. You may submit your resume via Facebook messenger or by email to [email protected].

The number of graduates from midwifery education programs has increased by 17% since 2014, but it’s not enough to address the maternal health care shortage America faces. We must invest in the midwifery workforce to increase access to quality care: http://ow.ly/Mh9N50xS8MF
