LWF/Lest We Forget Slavery Museum-The Black Holocaust 04.11.2020

Dear Friends: We regret to inform you that LEST WE FORGET SLAVERY MUSEUM has CLOSED. LWF Slavery Museum has been in operation at 3650 Richmond St. (Port Richmond) since 2002 and was the only museum of it's kind in Philadelphia, PA. Our museum housed an extensive number of slave artifacts from the private Ragsdale collection. Numerous slave shackles, manacles and other forms of ironware used to confine enslaved Africans, Bill of Sale documents that reveal how black human being...s were bought and sold like chattel property, Jim Crow objects purposely created to denigrade black people, were all on exhibit. Our guided tours and presentations provided a candid review of slavery from capture to emancipation and beyond, that correlated historic events with current ones. "We shed light on a dark and tragic period in American history (not Black History) while also revealing the enduring strength of enslaved African ancestors and their descendants". Those who visited us over the years know firsthand the impact our museum made on our many visitors over the years. For those who did not, you have no idea what you missed. We also greatly contributed to Philadelphia tourism. Bus loads of visitors from as far away as Chicago came to Philadelphia to primarily tour our museum, while here, they also visited other area museums and favorite eating places like the Reading Terminal and South Street. Visiting conferees often Googled us and made a point to schedule visits during their stay. LWF museum visitors crossed all color groups, ethnicities and religions. In the meantime, we continue to offer our much known Traveling Slavery Exhibit which we present at schools, universities, conferences, places of worship and local annual events like the upcoming Locks Conference and Black History Showcase. We're presently accepting requests for 2018 Black History programs, our calendar is filling up fast, so contact us soon or book an exhibit date on our website: http://lwfsm.com/index.php/traveling-exhibit/ You can also purchase our products on our website, like the best selling "Little Known History Facts Booklet", award winning documentary films, the intriguing novel "Peculiar Relationships" that explores the evolving relationships between black and white women from slavery to present day. LWF museum was an exceptional institution, we hope to relocate, somewhere in Philadelphia, if you have any suggestions please let us know. If you want to support our efforts you can make a DONATION on our website Support Preserve The Legacy Your contributions are welcomed and appreciated. The Lest We Forget Museum is a 501(c)3 No... It has been a pleasure serving our community for the past 15 years, thank you for your patronage and support, keep us in your thoughts & prayers. PLEASE FORWARD..... J.
