Building the turnout at High Rock

Work resumes on the tracks at High Rock - (per The York Mail Newsletter Volume 32 Number 4 Winter 2020) this was the first step of many for the development of the High Rock shop and site.... The first step - was replacing the existing road crossing at High Rock Road and rebuilding the track for 250 feet south of the crossing. Once the track was removed from the roadway new ties and replacement rail was installed. The track elevation in the road was raised about 6 inches to remove the dip in the road surface. Along with the crossing replacement, the section of track south of the road will be raised and rebuilt with new and relay crossties and 100 lb rail which the Society has on site. The first of 3 planned switches will be installed to create a new equipment storage track along the west side of our planned train shed. This will make it possible for our full sized equipment, including the GE45-tonner to come to High Rock. We expect that all of the track work involving the main line will be done before the resumption of public train service in June and that the siding will be completed this summer.

Our buildings are festively decorated, complete with socially distanced tables for our always popular crafts, and new protocols designed to keep everyone safe have been developed. Unfortunately, the coronavirus has other ideas. Its rapid spread in our area has resulted in new restrictions on p...ublic events. The limitation of indoor gatherings to 10% of normal building capacity that was announced by Governor Wolf on Monday, has made it impossible for us to run the Christmas City Express as planned. We are very disappointed that we must cancel the event and will be unable to host this year's program for you. In light of this cancellation, you have several options on how to proceed. If you would like to help our museum recover from our pandemic-caused financial losses, you can choose to convert your ticket purchase into a tax-deductible charitable donation, which will be acknowledged by the Society. You can apply your tickets to next year's Christmas City Express program. We will send you a coupon now, good for tickets for your entire party, and offer you first choice of date and time for next year's event by e-mail prior to beginning regular ticket sales. You can request a full refund of your ticket purchase and the handling fee. If you ordered a Christmas City Express book with your ticket purchase we will mail it to you at our expense. We are sorry for this disruption to your holiday plans. We regret that we cannot welcome you this Christmas season, but we hope to see you next year, either at Christmas City Express or during our regular summer and fall season.

Saturday, October 10 was as good a day as you could ask for in early fall to ride the train and relax in the yard! Sunday... was cloudy, but pleasant and we got all the rides in before the rain started at 4:30. Thank you All for supporting our Village through your continued interest in our events.
