GOOD NEWS: this is one the closest things to a Christmas Miracle I have ever experienced in my career. After 8 years being in administrative quicksand struggling to save our liquor license Maingate Nightclub and FairGrounds Hotel the LCB has decided no longer object to the renewal of our license and has approved its renewal for the new year. I am so incredibly grateful for this Good News it brought me to tears. Although I know we are still in a cluttered minefield due to C...OVID this renewal removes a fair amount mines so we can keep navigating this mine field with a fighting chance of survival. I will probably never know the real reason as to why they made this decision but I could assume it may be attributed to the fact that we were relatively quiet for over year with no noise citations and we were also approved under the cities noise exemption over the summer, we also adhered to all the COVID guidelines since day one and I worked tirelessly be a responsible licensee and manage our problems with the LCB and run a respectable business and YES i think it may have finally paid off. Regardless as to the reason why, I never expected such amazing news from the State of PA on Christmas Eve and even a wish Happy Holidays from the LIquor Control Board. This is a Christmas miracle on so many levels especially when most of the recent news we get from the state has been Bad News for our industry amid the pandemic. I wish I could share this amazing news with my late mother and father at Christmas dinner but I know the reason we had this favorable outcome is due to their divine intervention from heaven and that of God. MAINGATE UPDATE: (please share) Today, We have been closed at MainGate Nightclub. for a full year except for a few outdoor only day events this summer. I closed voluntarily and remain closed voluntarily, initially for our long running noise problem and now due to COVID. Both of which have caused us great financial hardship and massive amount of business interruption not only for us but for the entire bar, restaurant and nightclub industry in terms of COVID. Over the pas...t year while we were closed I am grateful to say we did make some progress with our noise problem when the city and LCB approved a noise exemption not only for us but for some other neighborhood businesses on the west end of Allentown. Even with the noise exemption in place, we still have pending LCB licensing litigation based on prior noise citations and we could potentially lose our license and or our ability to operate as we did for 40+ years. Nonetheless, I still have hope to save our license being we are now noise exempted, have a full year and counting of being almost completely silent making zero noise, while also playing 100% by all COVID rules this should look favorable on our record with LCB and the city. A long forty year record I might add of serving the Valley’s diverse demographic as consistently and safely as possible even if was not always Sunday School as my father would say We will remain closed till the COVID coast is clear and more conducive to a comeback and May or comeback be greater then all our setbacks!! I may have not seen any of you on the dance floor in 2020. But I hope to see ALL on the dance floor once again in 2021. We miss you and hope some of you miss us! WE WILL DANCE AGAIN at MainGate! MAINGATE UPDATE (GOOD NEWS): The LCB has approved the city of Allentown’s Noise exemption for the west end theater district helping us to at least remove one of the many landmines in the mine field for us at MainGate Nightclub. The noise exemption is for one year with the possibility of extending it longer. In my opinion this should make our noise problem more manageable giving us a chance to survive. At this point, We have our eyes on 2021 since 2020 does not seem like th...e year for a big comeback in the nightclub industry due to COVID. Nonetheless, I am truly grateful for city of Allentown and the community’s support extending us life-line here and I will do my best to cooperate with city, APD, neighbors and LCB. Day by Day WE go! I made the tough executive decision to postpone Social Call at MainGate Bier Garden tonight Friday July 17th. I think it best we sit one out till things are made more clear with new guidance. I still think we could have certain outdoor events bier garden events under the new guidelines but without a better understanding of the specifics of the new rules directly from PA LCB it’s hard to tell. I am already in enough trouble with LCB and my license is in already in danger of b...eing revoked due to my noise issues so I have to proceed with caution. We will sit just this one out till things are more clear but don’t expect us to sit out too long, just long enough till we get compliant program that works under the new guidelines.
