A little positive news for your Friday! We know that nursing home patients were at the highest risk for severe complications and death from COVID-19. However, this promising data shows that there has been a 60% decrease in deaths since December! We can draw a simple conclusion that since nursing homes were some of the first ones to get vaccinated, that our vaccines are working! Today marks the start of Black History Month. Now more than ever, we need to come together not only to recognize the many contributions and achievements of black Americans, but also the systemic issues that continue to plague our nation. As healthcare professionals, we acknowledge the unfortunate reality that black Americans are at a higher risk for heart disease, stroke, cancer, pregnancy complications and more recently, they have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19..., stemming from inequalities in healthcare access and poverty, according to the CDC.
