Apron and shawl...fichu?...complete. I added the hat to the dress form as witchy inspiration to keep me on track for Halloween completion. I know the blue/green and the tight orange plaid don't match at all. Don't worry. They aren't meant to be seen together anyway. Two more pieces to go until this dress is complete!
Hi, all!! My Bellatrix costume (handmade, of course!) made it to the top five in a contest. Winner gets professional photos of the costume. This one was a pleasure to make, made great memories with great new friends, and I'd love to honor it in this way. If you can, please pop over to the original post and vote!
18th century undergarments, check. (Including an over-sized bum roll for fun!) I won't lie. The stays took way more time than I originally expected. The bias is messy in places. I used metal grommets instead of painstakingly hand-sewing the eyelets. I need longer ribbon for the laces. Still, this can work as a good foundation for my upcoming Halloween costume.
In my excitement to share the old Capt'n Maggie photo on the 19th, I somehow managed to forget this newer, revised Momma Capt'n Maggie. This was easily the most comfortable Ren Faire costume I have made and was my first introduction into my newer obsession with kirtles. The fabric for the brown pants is a beautiful checked silk inherited from my grandmother's stash that I had always wanted to use on a special project.
Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day! Throw back to my Captain Maggie days.
A reminder to build your outfits from the inside out. 18th century basic shift, made out of a thrifted bed sheet.
Zip ties as boning, meant to be lighter and "easier" than other more historical boning options. Day 3. 0/10. Do not approve.
Everyone needs a sewing buddy.
While I have been preparing my studio (better known as "glorified attic work space"), I have been feeling rather nostalgic and decided to take a trip down memory late to look at some of my past work. I have much to learn. Stick with me, if you are at all interested, because I have made a lot of new discoveries, and I can't wait to share them.
Peasant tops have been getting a lot of views lately.
