The Market At Styers

We turned over the keys and walked through this place for the last time today. This place that has always felt warm and familiar and brimming with memories and people we love. This place where the ovens still smelled like pies and a few stray cars pulled into the parking lot to see if we were open. We know that in time everyone will move on from this. We know that our time here will be a memory. Maybe someday we’ll move on, too, but today we are grieving while we say goodbye to this place. This place that has felt like an old dear friend.

Our dad started working when he was 13 years old. Our grandfather owned a grocery store in Trenton and our dad watched and learned everything he knew from him. This picture has been in our dad’s office at the market for at least a decade, and it’s all packed up now. Our grandpop passed away in 2008 but he would certainly be so proud of our dad and the business he built.

From Gina Artillio: Today, I walked into the store for the last final time. The words that I said to my mom, I might just have ptsd after leaving. (I was trying to be funny to hide my feelings). It took a minute for everything to sink in, then I told her I had to go before I was going to cry. The tears flowed before I even walked out the door. This. This was my second home. Where I saw many faces of employees from the time I was kid, until I started working right behind th...is counter. Became friends with coworkers, and customers. It’s been a hard day to process this. You might just think this was just a store. But to me, it’s home. I’m literally left with nothing to say besides my heart is aching more than it ever did the last few weeks Pictures of Gina when she first learned how to write on a cake in 2014 and when the store first opened after renovations in 2000.

These are from 21 years ago when the building was being renovated. So much time, work, and money to make it what it was. It was a labor of love. Sad to see it so empty again.

From Miranda Roman In November of 2016 I was welcomed to the Styer’s family. In the beginning I thought it was just going to be a second job for me and extra income, however that quickly changed. Styer’s Market soon became my family. They truly treated me like their own and have been there always. Over the past 5 years I have grew so many relationships and am so thankful for each and every one. Today was a hard and very sad day but I know things will work out in the end. Mom and Dad, we are so proud of you. Of who you are, of how hard you’ve worked, and of what you’ve given to the community.
