I first met Father Sica when I did a story about him in my college journalism class for his appearance on ABC's Life with Bonnie. At the time my father worked with him daily and as any great father would, helped me score the gig so to speak. It was my first production. My first time filming. My first time editing. Looking back, it was where it all started. And I'll always be grateful for the time he spent with me, and with my family. Not only during those first years but for ...the past 17 years. He was there when I lost both my grandfather and grandmother. He was there when my father was sick, and continued to be there for my family both spiritually and as a friend. Losing my grandparents was a hard thing, but seeing his smile, hearing his jokes (yes he made jokes during a funeral) made coping with the loss of a loved one, just a little bit easier. You see, Father Joe wasn't your everyday run of the mill priest. Anyone who ever met him would surely agree. He was much more. He had an amazing way of connecting with you, guiding you in the only way he knew how - through laughter. Was he a clown?...Sometimes. Did he push the envelope?... More than once. But he always made you happy. To know him was to witness a God-given gift first hand. A gift that comforted people, a gift that embraced people, and a gift that made people smile when they needed it the most. That is what I will remember about Father Sica. His unwavering commitment to helping those around him, and his beautiful gift of bringing joy to others through laughter. May he rest in eternal peace and bring joy to the angels and the saints the same way he brought joy to so many here on earth. Che riposi in pace. See more
