HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY: Bridgeville American Legion Post No. 54, Holds Celebration for the 100th Anniversary of Its Original Charter on Veterans Day, 2020 Members of Bridgeville American Legion Post No. 54, some residents of Bridgeville and several local politicians celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding charter of the post, today. The charter was issued by the National American Legion Organization on November 29th, 1920 formally recognizing the formation of the loca...l post in Bridgeville. Due to Coronavirus restrictions, a brief celebration was held. Mayor Copeland gave a brief speech thanking the veterans for their service to country in defending our freedom, as well as acknowledging the many community service projects the Post has initiated in its first 100 years (such as the Memorial Day Parade and many fundraising efforts for local charities). Proclamations honoring the 100th Anniversary of the Local Post were read at the request of Mayor Copeland by, The Honorable Pam Iovino (State Senator, 37th District), The Honorable Jason Ortitay, (State Representative, 46th Legislative District) and the Honorable Thomas Duerr, (Allegheny County Council Member, 5th District). In addition, Proclamations came from the Veterans Breakfast Club (Todd DePastino Executive Director), as well as Bridgeville Borough Government. Also, attending the celebration were Bridgeville Borough Council Members, Joe Colosimo and Nick Ciesielski. The parent Organization’s formal charter was approved by Congress in September of 1919, meaning the Bridgeville American Legion Post was among the first local Posts to be charted in the country (a little over a year later than the formation of the parent organization).

VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION: Tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 11th, 2020; Bridgeville American Legion Post No. 54 Celebrates its 100th Anniversary with a 1 PM Program This Veterans Day, Bridgeville American Legion Post No. 54 is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding charter, which was made official, Nov. 29th, 1920. A program will take place at the American Legion Post facility, Wednesday, Nov. 11th, 2020, at 325 Station Street at 1 PM. The members of the Post felt that ...it would be a great way to honor all veterans who have served nationally, as well as honoring those from Bridgeville who served and started a tradition of local service which now extends to a century. Several local politicians will be there to share tributes in the honoring of our veterans. For those of us who cannot attend the program, please take time out tomorrow to honor a veteran with a personal thank you, a phone call, a moment of silence, or by flying your flag on Veterans Day. In these unsettled times, America has men and women serving on foreign soil who are in harm’s way and cannot take a day off. Let’s not forget them on this day. Please, join with me in wishing all veterans and current military personnel a happy Veterans Day, said Mayor Copeland. #BRIDGEVILLE STRONG
