Hate your old oak vanities/cabinets?? Although they were very popular during the mid/late 90s through the early 2000s, most homeowners have not been too kind when discussing their orange cabinets or vanities. If you are in this group, do not worry. I recently tackled the project of refacing my ugly, old oak vanity cabinets in the master bathroom and wanted to share some pictures of the finished product. I chose to do a light distress with the dark grey my wife selected (Grizzle Grey by Sherwin Williams) and installed some soft close dampers (under $4 each!) on each cabinet. Maybe it’s time you explored this option, it was a game changer for our master bathroom.

To all of the DIY homeowners who are planning to tackle a painting project: If the current finish is eggshell or higher (more shiny), that finish will "show yo...u" everything that must be prepped, don't ignore what it is showing you! If you plan to change the finish from eggshell to flat or matte, and you've prepped properly, your completed room should look fantastic. Rule of thumb, when you think you've prepped enough, prep more! This picture was from a room that looked "good" upon quick inspection and required quite a bit of prep work. See more
