#TransformationTuesday This beautifully constructed imbricated retaining wall was built to save the walking path above from the undercutting erosion that was happening along the stream bank. Imbricated stone is a specialty type of a stone, having 2 parallel flat surfaces making the stone stackable. MLS uses this stone, just like a mason uses bricks, staggering joints to provide the structural integrity of the wall. Not only will this wall protect the stream bank and prevent erosion for years to come, but it also provides a scenic back drop in this park in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Beautiful and functional, the keys to great restoration! #streamrestoration #construction #mlsrocks #environment

Transformation Tuesday's are always fun for us to look back at before photos and see how much has changedafter construction. This before photo shows an eroded bank prior to construction threatening a nearby baseball field. By the time we started construction, even more bank loss occurred due to multiple high water events in 2018. While an eroded stream bank is a major eye sore, and a safety hazard to nearby structures, it also creates two major water quality problems - excess nutrients and sediment, which can negatively impact aquatic life. The after photo was taken one year post construction and you can see the difference in water quality. Great job MLS crews! #streamrestoration #mlsrocks #construction #enivronment #transformationtuesday

Starting off the work week admiring this beautiful stream. Sometimes we take for granted how fortunate we are to be a major part of restoring the earth. After a successful stream restoration, we are able to provide cleaner water for everyone from fish, plants, to humans. Earth Day is coming up next week on April 22nd. Take a moment to think about what you can do to #RestoreOurEarth, Every Day. #streamrestoration #plantmoreseeds #earthday #construction

#NationalFarmersDay Please at all times recognize the farmers of the United States, who work hard 7 days a week to make sure we are fed. Thank you for the teachings and talents of my father for his farming of seeds to restore and stabilize our beautiful country with vegetation. A crop is never a guarantee and it comes with challenges. Calvin Ernst and Marcia Ernst never gave up to a strong windstorm, hailstorm, drought nor flood. They are true stewards of the land. #farmland #plantmoreseeds #sustainability #restoration #environment #climatechange #sustainable #conservation #MLSrocks #ErnstPollinatorService

Flashback Friday to the existing site conditions prior to any work started by MLS. Swipe right to see the site 6 months post construction! This project was a design-build with @biohabitats for the City of Mentor in collaboration with the @chagrin_river and Lake County Soil & Water Conservation District. @biohabitats

We were very happy to be part of this restoration project with some awesome findings just a short period of time after completion!

This Black-crowned Night-Heron was spotted on site in Frederick, MD. #funfact These birds do most of their feeding at night and spend much of the day hunched among leaves and branches near the water’s edge. #streamrestoration #birds #plantmoreseeds #mlsrocks
