April is recognized as Foot Health Awareness Month. Are your feet healthy or are you at risk for developing foot wounds? Some primary risks for wounds of the foot include neuropathy (common among diabetics), deformity of the foot, a history of foot ulcers and prior amputation. The LECOM Institute of Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine recommends the following foot care techniques to keep your feet healthy: - Check your feet daily for red spots, cuts, swelling, bliste...rs, sores or other injuries. - Wash your feet every day and dry them with care, especially between your toes. - Wear properly fitting shoes that don't pinch your feet. - Always wear socks or stockings with your shoes and never walk barefoot or while wearing just socks. - Physical activity can help increase circulation in your feet. - Take off your socks at your next check-up and alert your doctor to any foot problems. For parents, discussing alcohol and substance use with their kids might be a tricky topic, but research supported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse shows the important role parents play in preventing drug use in their children. Today was a historic day for LECOM Health as Millcreek Community Hospital received its initial shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. As an early Christmas g...ift, the shipment of 600 first-round vaccines arrived at the hospital early Monday, a day earlier than expected, and hospital staff began inoculating employees at noon. Emergency room physician Eric Milie, D.O., was the first MCH employee to receive the vaccine, followed by LECOM Institute for Successful Aging President James Lin, D.O., and Millcreek Community Hospital Vice President of Acute Care, Behavioral Health and Quality Danielle Hansen, D.O. Hospital staff plan to administer one vaccine approximately every 10 minutes over a seven-hour period on the first day. The second round of the Moderna vaccine is expected to arrive in about three weeks. See more
