We had a night full of fun, laughs, great food and entertainment at the Melhorn Christmas party. Thank you to all who came out to celebrate with us! A special thank you to a few people who made this event possible: Tres Hermanos and Patty Hanson for providing an outstanding dinner, Mariachi Maya for excellent entertainment, Kensey Melhorn and Kelly Sundburg for their hilarious games and hosting abilities, Scott Hanson for piecing the whole night together and Astin Melhorn for hosting a wonderful evening to bring friends, family and coworkers together.

Our elves have been hard at work prepping for our annual Christmas party. We are ready to ring in the holiday season!

Chicken Fact Thursday: Chickens are omnivores. They’ll eat seeds and insects but also larger prey like small mice and lizards.

Yesterday was Turkey Day here at Melhorn! Thank you Esbenshade Turkey Farm for always delivering farm-fresh, delicious turkeys for our team. What does your Thanksgiving look like? Chicken fact Thursday: Roosters perform a little dance called 'Tidbitting' in which they make sounds (food calls) and move their head up and down, picking up and dropping food. Researchers have found that females prefer males that often perform tidbitting and have larger, brighter combs on the top of their heads. Weekly chicken fact: Did you know that the egg production of a laying hen is largely dependent on light? Each year when the days get shorter the non-commercial layers will begin to go into a natural molt (meaning they will lose/regrow their feathers and produce less eggs). To prevent this, commercial layers will receive additional light stimulation to maintain their summertime production rates. Bonus fact:... Chickens not only detect light through their eyes, they also detect it using their pineal gland located on the back of their head.

Meet our team: Today we introduce you to our President, Astin Melhorn. A couple fun facts about Astin: 1. He has worked here for 17 years. When asked what his favorite thing about working here was he said: I really appreciate the people I work with. Seeing their hard work and dedication to doing the job right motivates and inspires me every day.... 2. He has a special talent of Yo-Yoing! 3. One of the wildest things he’s eaten is Lion Fish! We asked him how he would explain his job to a group of children, and this was his response: We work with the chickens that lay the eggs that you eat for breakfast. We are so lucky to have Astin as our fearless leader here at Melhorn!

Meet our team: Today we introduce you to one of our drivers, Kevan McGlinchey! A couple fun facts about Kevan: 1. He has worked here for a little over a year and his favorite part of working here is the people and how they treat everyone like family and work as team!... 2. If he could trade places with anyone in the world he would trade places with a military vet so he could understand the true sacrifice they gave to our great country. 3. One of the strangest things he’s eaten is rattle snake, he also said he’s willing to try anything new! We asked him how he would explain his job to a group of children, and this was his response: I haul chickens from farm to farm so people have eggs to eat. We’re very happy to have Kevan as a member of our team!

Meet our team: Today we introduce you to one of our drivers, Darren Wenger! A couple fun facts about Darren: 1. He has worked here for 5 years and his favorite part of working here is the people.... 2. If he could change places with anyone in the world he would trade places with his infant daughter so he could see the world from her perspective! 3. He does not eat anything wild or exotic, he said no mystery food! We asked him how he would explain his job to a group of children, and this was his response: As my 4-year-old daughter says, haul chickens! We’re very happy to have Darren as a member of our team!

Meet our team: Today we introduce you to our Human Resources Director, Korina King! A couple fun facts about Korina: 1. She has worked here for almost 4 years. Her favorite things about working here are the people and family like atmosphere!... 2. Her talent is getting a husband as well as 3 children out the door and to their destinations, while still being early. She’s also a good cook! 3. If she could trade places with anyone for a day, she would trade places with her grandmother. "She had the best outlook on life and was so thoughtful and caring of others!" We asked her how she would explain her job to a group of children, and this was her response: I get to help people get jobs and work with an incredible team of people each day! We are so glad to have Korina as a part of our team!

Meet our team: Today we introduce you to one of our shop mechanics, Steven Hanson! A couple fun facts about Steven: 1. He has worked here for about two years and says his favorite thing about working here is that everyone is easy to get along with!... 2. If he could trade places with anyone, he’d trade places with an astronaut so he could see space! 3. He once ate alligator and frog legs while he was on a cruise. We asked him how he would explain his job to a group of children, and this was his response: When vehicles break, I get to fix them and make them safe to drive on the road. We’re very happy to have Steven as a member of our team!
