Today is our last day of our Turkey to the Tree challenge, and we must say we are so grateful for all of you that joined in. This community continues to inspire us to do what we do, sharing the gift of yoga with you. We are honored that you have chosen us as your yoga home. As we approach the end of the year, let's all continue to be grateful for the things that we have - both big and small. Express your gratitude to those you love and inspire them to do the same. Slow Down Melties, taking time daily to connect with your breath and find stillness will help calm your mind and your body. Even a few minutes each day can make a huge impact on your wellbeing. Make time today to connect to your breath and body and do a little check-in with yourself.... Let's slow down: Pour yourself a tea and find a cozy spot to sit. Take your gaze into the tea and think of 3 things that you are grateful for today, at this moment. Now, gently close down the eyes and focus on the breath. Notice the sensations in every inhale and exhale; notice the belly rise on the inhale and fall on the exhale. Inhale to a count of 3 or 4 and lengthen the exhale to a count of 5 or 6. Gradually, see if you can increase the count of the exhale to double that of the inhale. These longer exhales invite the body to relax and stimulates our body into rest & digest mode. Give yourself some time here to just be. You deserve it! Find peace. Find stillness.

Alignment Tip: Focus on a straight spine in Awkward Pose. Yes, A LOT is going on in Awkward, and one of the most common places that focus is forgotten about is maintaining a straight spine. While we may get caught up in the alignment of feet, knees, and arms, we can't forget about the importance of a nice long line in our spine. Keep these in mind to support the spine:... tuck in the belly and engage the core, which will prevent a slump in the low back send the crown of the head up to lengthen the spine from tailbone all the way to the cervical spine at the top engage the shoulders as you reach the arms out long to keep the upper spine properly aligned Remember to keep the core engaged when you come out of part three, so your alignment doesn't collapse!!

Challengers, how are we doing? We only have a couple weeks left in the challenge, and life is getting busier and busier as we approach the holidays. Remember to continue with your practices of self-care: take a yoga class... read a book enjoy a bubble bath One of our favorite self-care rituals is meditation. Slowing down the mind in meditation helps to declutter and clear out all of the busy-ness of our lives. It gives the brain a chance to calm and reorganize thoughts. This practice allows us to stay in the moment. Although the mind may wander to the past or the future, the challenge is to stay in the moment, to stay with the breath. In this calm state, we often find gratitude. Gratitude that we are taking the time for ourselves. Taking time for self-care that is so essential. Melties, we are almost at the end of 2020!! It's been a challenging year, but we are still here as a community, showing up on our mats and using these powerful practices to get us through our challenges. As things get busier with the holiday season, remember to take time for you. Remember that even at the busiest of times, self-care is so important. The time that you spend on your mat will help to reduce stress so that you can hop off your mat and be fully present in your d...aily life. It may sound backward, but sometimes you have to slow things down to get things done. We can't wait to see you on your mat soon, taking time just for YOU!
