Curious about our department's faculty? Get to know a bit about the Dr. George Pickens! "I came to Messiah in 2005 after teaching for 8 years at Kentucky Christian University and 10 years in Africa (Ivory Coast and Kenya) before that. My advice to students: cultivate the spiritual disciplines of curiosity and intellectual humility, particularly in regards to our Christian faith. The Divine is immense and the Christian Tradition is ancient and broad, so the best we can do i...s to engage our own snap shots of each. Acknowledging that we are living from glimpses rather than complete visions is humbling yet inspiring for our life’s work and purposes. I am an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren, and I do a good deal of local interfaith work, connecting local churches to conversations with our neighbors who practice other religions. I enjoy traveling, hiking, reading contemporary fiction and watching baseball and quality documentaries. My favorite saying is a Chinese proverb: Some will always know little because they know too soon." See more
Curious about our department's faculty? Get to know a bit about the Reverend Dr. Stephen Gallaher! The Reverend Dr. Stephen Gallaher serves as Professor of Christian Ministry, Youth and Pastoral Leadership at Messiah College and is the Founder and Executive Director Emeritus of Salt ‘n Light Youth Ministry, Inc. He has had the great joy of teaching Practical Theology and Youth Ministry at Evangelical Seminary in Myerstown, PA, the Russia Theological Seminary in Moscow, and fo...r ten years at Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C. Given his passion for serving God’s purposes, especially among young people, Stephen serves under a vision of youth reaching youth with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Along with his role at Messiah, Stephen also serves as an Associate Pastor of Preaching at the Camp Hill United Methodist Church, having pastored for 42 years within the Wesleyan tradition. For personal enrichment, he enjoys various outdoor pursuits and, along with his brothers, runs the family farm.
