January is National Train Your Dog Month. Our Behaviorist Dr. Hagar Hauser wanted to share some information that may be helpful through the month of January. Find Your Moment of Yes While it's common for us to tell our dog to stop exhibiting an undesirable behavior, such as jumping or barking, we often forget to reward the behaviors we want to see! By rewarding alternative behaviors that are incompatible with the ones that we find undesirable, we are teaching our dogs new s...kills and behaviors to perform instead. This will help change long-term behaviors and improve our relationship with our dogs. . . #trainyourdogmonth #dogtraining #ontheirbestbehavior #findyourmomentofyes #YES #veterinarybehavior #veterinaryspecialty #goodboy #goodgirl #metropolitanveterinaryassociates See more

I brought my pug in to be evaluated for stenotic nares. The doctors were very helpful and thorough and answered all of my questions at the consultation. When it was time to drop her off, I felt totally comfortable and knew she was in good hands. The surgery went great, they followed up with me on the phone because she had to stay overnight and were very reassuring. Her recovery was quick and the discharge instructions were clear, which was great because she had a lot of medication to take for a few days! Overall a great experience if surgery is needed. . . #pugs #puglife #stenoticnares #veterinarysurgery #veterinaryspecialty #thatface #welovepets #bestpatientsever #metropolitanveterinaryassociates

January is National Train Your Dog Month. Our Behaviorist Dr. Hagar Hauser wanted to share some information that may be helpful through the month of January. Counterconditioning Is your dog (or cat) scared of a specific noise, object, or person? Counterconditioning is a great, easy tool to create a positive association with the trigger and change your pet's emotional response to seeing it. The basis of this training is pairing the trigger with something your pet finds positi...ve (e.g. food, praise, petting, toys, etc.). . . #trainyourdogmonth #dogtraining #ontheirbestbehavior #counterconditioning #veterinarybehavior #veterinaryspecialty #goodboy #goodgirl #metropolitanveterinaryassociates See more

Meet Chloe! She had a large tumor in her lower jaw that was removed by our oral surgeon Dr. Corinne Durand and the biopsy came back showing clean margins (which means she got all the tumor cells). She is eating great and back to playing happily! . . #veterinaryoralsurgery #lookinggoodchloe #sweetdoodle #cancersucks #stronggirl #dogsarethebest #veterinaryspecialty #metropolitanveterinaryassociates

Bentley is a gorgeous 140 pound Great Dane. Bentley has a neurologic condition that affects the way he walks, unfortunately causing some sores on his back feet. He has been coming in for bandage changes with our surgeon Dr. Kendra Hearon and literally falls into complete "pamper" mode when he gets them changed. Here he is enjoying every moment of the attention as our surgical resident Dr. Lucy Chou changes his bandage and nurses Amber and Nicole get the reap the benefits of his snuggle time. . . #pampertime #puppypampering #greatdane #greatdanelove #sweetbentley #chroniclumbosacralincongruency #veterinaryneurology #veterinarysurgery #veterinaryspecialty #vettechlife #vettechworld #metropolitanveterinaryassociates

January is National Train Your Dog Month. Our Behaviorist Dr. Hagar Hauser wanted to share some information that may be helpful through the month of January. Positive reinforcement training Dog training is an unregulated industry so knowing how to pick the right trainer for your dog or cat is important. We recommend finding a trainer that uses science-based, positive reinforcement, force free, and fear free methodology. Here is an excellent infograph explaining the benefits ...of using this type of training. For more information about how to find the right trainer please see the AVSAB Position Statement on How to Choose a Trainer: https://avsab.org//20/03/How_to_Choose_a_Trainer_AVSAB.pdf . . #trainyourdogmonth #dogtraining #ontheirbestbehavior #positivereinforcementtraining #positivereinforcement #veterinarybehavior #veterinaryspecialty #goodboy #goodgirl #metropolitanveterinaryassociates See more

Sweet Maximus has been hospitalized with us after having surgery with our Surgical Oncologist Dr. Kendra Hearon. Last week Friday, mom mentioned how much he loves the snow, so our emergency nurse Eric took him outside to, literally, get a little "taste" of the snow even when he's away from home. . . #maximus #rottie #rottweiler #rottiesinthesnow #veterinarysurgery #veterinaryoncology #sweetbabyboy #veterinaryspecialty #metropolitanveterinaryassociates

I worked with Heather and Sarah, who were very forthcoming with information and kept me informed about the I-131 radiation treatment Lucy was undergoing for her hyperthyroidism. Because of Covid-19 protocols I was unable to enter the facility, but it appeared to be a very well-run place and the staff that I spoke to when I dropped Lucy off and when I picked her up were very pleasant, polite and helpful. Sarah was the person who gave me all of the information prior to the proc...edure, about the preparations I would have to make and about the care during the 2 weeks post-procedure. Heather checked in with me daily while Lucy was kept at Metro-Vet for 3 days after the procedure, and checked in with me regularly after Lucy came home. Over the weekend after Lucy came home, she had what I thought was a slight emergency, and I called and left a voice-mail, and Heather called me back and talked me through my concerns and was very reassuring and offered to stay in touch with me if there were any more issues during the weekend that did not require my seeking emergency care for Lucy. My impression is that everyone is very caring and supportive and that Lucy was well-cared for, as was I. My experience so far makes me feel that I would highly recommend Metropolitan Vets. . . #catsrule #felinehyperthyroidism #I131 #Iodineradiotherapy #beautifulgirl #meow #purrrfect #purr #veterinaryradiology #veterinaryspecialty #metropolitanveterinaryassociates See more
