Our friend Yogi has put together a great, fully referenced discussion of the barefoot vs shoes arguments. Well worth a careful read of the links (one is a post, the other is a videosomething for everyone!)

Interesting. I agree that observing domestic horses has limited value. Our research group has presumed that the most reliable *leader* would be the horse with the best (quickest, correct judging) nervous system. Generally a female, of course!! I don’t see the study above in conflict with that idea. You follow the one whose ideas serve you best.

Just submitted manuscript to Journal of Experimental Biology with my nerdy engineer colleague Andy Ruina total mechanics genius with a reputation for never fin...ishing projects because he’s so easily distracted by the next thing that catches his curiosity. Andy is the Real Thing and I’m so grateful for all the time he gave to our little horse posture problem! . See more

This is a great video discussion I did with the fabulous Yogi Sharp, a farrier who is committed to making equine podiatry research more standardized and rigorous. He is doing his PhD on negative plantar angles and discovered the postural connection in his clinical work. This is way fun and we will have a live Q&A afterwards at 1 pm EST. Next time, Dr. Judith Shoemaker will join us to talk about clinical applications.
