From about 21 years ago in the good old days of film. West Point Lighthouse at Cedar Dunes Provincial Park, Prince Edward Island, Canada. A 6x12 cm. medium format color transparency converted to B&W shot with a Noblex Pro 6/150 swing lens panoramic camera.
Loyalsock Creek, Loyalsock State Forest, Pennsylvania. (The November page of the BrownTrout 2020 Wild & Scenic Pennsylvania calendar).
Lake Shore Road, Promised Land State Park, Pennsylvania
The season's first snow storm, Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania
A small wetland on State Game Lands 127 in Monroe County, Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania. Shot about 3 weeks ago as the autumn foliage is long gone here.
Brady's Lake, Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania. Shot about three weeks ago and converted to B&W.
Wagners Run wetland, Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania. A human/beaver created wetland. Well over 70 years ago beavers dammed a culvert running under railroad tracks for a railroad hauling ice to New York City. The tracks and railroad have long faded into history and out of most people’s memories but the magnificent wetland remains.
Conservation Island, Promised Land State Park, Pennsylvania.
A thicket of Red Maple saplings, Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania.
Pitch Pine needles and deciduous autumn leaves floating on an autumnal rain pool, Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania.
Shaggy Mane, Coprinus comatus, Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania. Although fairly common I haven’t seen any this nice in some time probably because they self-decompose so quickly.
Conservation Island on Promised Land Lake at Promised Land State Park, Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania. I can't recall how many autumns I have shot this same scene.
Prompton Lake at Prompton State Park Wayne County, Pennsylvania. A little past peak with autumn foliage, but still pretty nice.
Varden Conservation Area, a Pennsylvania State Park unit, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. Being there today reminded me of 19 years ago at this time of year when Dr. Mead Shaffer was in the process of generously giving his family’s homestead to the PA. Bureau of State Parks to be used for passive recreation and environmental education. Another park ranger and I were assigned to spend several days over a month’s time to explore the area to inventory its natural resources and to m...eet with Dr. Shaffer to learn about its human history. This assignment was outside of our routine duties and we loved every minute of it. But this was the last time the other ranger and I worked together as a couple of months later we both independently signed our retirement papers. Even though we were both thinking about retiring that autumn it wasn’t set in stone and I wonder if our supervisor gave us this assignment hoping we would stay on a little longer as we were both the most senior rangers at our park.
