Happy Birthday, Capitol Records! On this day in 1942, Glenn Wallichs launched Capitol Records. (Fun fact: Wallichs also invented the idea of the PROMO COPY!) Capitol, of course, would wind up being home to Kool & The Gang, Minnie Riperton, Ray Charles as well as Freda Payne, plus some guys called the Beatles. Oh, and the Beach Boys. Oh, oh, and Frank Sinatra, too. ... And Poison and Stryper and W.A.S.P. A lot goin' on there. Our dude @vincentjohn stopped by the shop today. Vincent is a super rad creative juggernaut. You should totally check out his label/studio @eraserhoodsound based in here in Philly. You may of heard some of Vincent’s work before. He was guitarist and writer for a some seriously bad ass Lee Fields albums like Faithful Man & Emma Jean. It was so gosh darn nice to chop it up with him and wax philosophical today. Like....so nice. It was spiritually therapeutic to talk, listen to m...usic and have someone buy records from me in person! I miss you all something terrible. Let’s make it a regular thing Philly. Been working on a thing that we would like to share. This Saturday we will be having an official RSD 2020 drop & record store pop up preview of our new Milkcrate Cafe record store at 402 E. Girard this Saturday 8am to 3pm!!! B.Y.O.M (bring your own mask!) I got gloves, sanitizer, coffee, food and records. Each guest will have 5 mins solo in our new shop to browse/ buy. The new shop will be by appointment only thereafter. More details on that in coming week. We can’t wait to see your faces !

Our brother/sister site from the same mister @milkcratecaferecords is hosting this amazing time capsule of rock, punk & metal posters circa 1989-1992. All were promotional posters for record stores. Our good bud Bob Banyon worked at Rock N’ Roll Plus on South Street and hoarded 100’s of goodies. We are honored and stoked to sell these on consignment for him. All available for store pick up or shipped. The record store nerd in me is so geeked ! What a rad way to relaunch @milkcratecaferecords as well curated, eclectic, awesome online store for posters, shirts, hi-fi equipment and of course the dopest hand picked wax.

As we close in on 4 months of this pandemic business model pivot. We need to take the masks off for a second and thank you all from the bottom of our hearts....Thank you for coming by everyday....rain or shine. Grabbing coffee, food & records out of our new little takeout window. We feel blessed to be able to be open the whole time. Super weird not having you all hang out inside. Seriously though...what a pleasure and honor it’s been waxing philosophical everyday with our peers, friends and neighbors. It’s been unbelievably grounding to talk to the community during these turbulent times. We love you all and look forward when our door is open for you again. There is a lot of rare heat rocks here.....but there is so much good (I hate to say it, and not sound snobby)...incredibly well taken care of common records.
