We hope everyone is healthy and safe during these uncertain times! While it’s easy to focus on what our young children (preschoolers specifically), are missing out on right now, it’s important to realize that the simplicity of our current, every day lives presents a unique opportunity for growth and development. Our children are absolutely missing out on the very skilled instruction only their wonderful teachers can provide, social interaction, opportunities to practice co...nflict resolution, routine and structured activities, but we can take this opportunity to encourage some of those really basic and all important play skills that are the foundation for all other development. Let them explore, be bored, get messy, go outside, play with their hands, build, read, run, climb, jump, push, pull and just PLAY. They can catch up on all the other classroom skills they aren’t currently engaged with.. It’s ok to focus on letting them learn through just simply being a kid right now. *And when it’s safe, we would love to help your children get back on track with those school readiness skills in preparation for the classroom. For the time being, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any concerns you have for your child, we’d be happy to share our advice.
Working on that pincer grasp! Although this early childhood fine motor milestone is typically achieved before age one, it never hurts to refine these skills as a warm-up to pencil and paper tasks. An activity like putting beads on pipe cleaners can address multiple goals such as fine motor precision, bilateral hand coordination and organizational skills (i.e. following a pattern) which are all foundational skills needed for success in the classroom setting
Tomorrow at 2:00 at The Children's Schoolhouse Of Collegeville, Inc.. You won’t want to miss this very valuable opportunity right in our own community offered by Healing Through Love LLC Childcare will be provided!
Did you know that children develop their motor skills from the inside, out? In the most basic of terms, core->extremities>hands/fingers. In therapy we love to use gross motor activities that engage the muscle groups needed for the children we work with to successfully participate in seated Fine Motor Tasks. Today in our group we played parachute games and a ball toss activity before getting started on a craft. WAY too much fun for pictures, but pictured below are some fun ways to get your little ones moving and building strength.
Did you know that constructing letters from 3D objects prior to pencil and paper tasks helps with the foundational skills needed to properly form letters? Today in our Fine Motor group we used pipe cleaners. Students chose from big and little lines to work through a variety of upper case letters before tracing them on paper.
