Let’s talk about highlights & dimensional color. Foils, balayage, hair painting, foilyage, teasy lights, color melts.. what does it all mean?! . Our most commonly booked service is balayage. Your friends get it. You’ve seen it on Pinterest. It’s hashtagged everywhere. You love balayage and we love balayage. . BUT did you know 9 times out of 10, the photo you show us isn’t actually balayage Let us explain.... . Balayage is a form of free handed highlighting- with the blonding mostly sitting on the surface of the hair. This creates a beachy, lived-in look. Because the lightener only sits on the surface of your hair, this form of highlighting can only lift your hair about 2-3 levels. That means if you’re a brunette, you can realistically expect caramel highlights during your first balayage session. . But I want blonde lived-in highlights! Cool! You can have it! Don’t freak out, but you’re going to need some foils in your hair . . Every Mint stylist specializes in hybrid highlighting and this photo by @magsdoesmyhair is the perfect example!
