Tool and technique Tuesday!!! Working on a new foam project that is going to require some extra large round rivets. This doming (or dapping) block was a gift to me when I was in college for metalsmithing and it has come in handy way more with my leather and even foam work. Also. Circle cutter tool. If you ever have to cut perfect circles in foam or leather (yes, I cut through leather with that tool), a circle cutter is a tool I would not be without in my toolkit. Even the simplest designs require attention and detail. Im working on a replica style satchel which is fairly straight forward and simple, but I hand sew everything together which means I have to pierce every hole first. So for #firstfriday Im showing a piece I’ve never done before in that it’s an exotic leather (genuine alligator), it was repurposed from an antique purse that was purchased in France I believe, and while I have made wallets before, Ive never made one that was fully lined with genuine suede too. It took me some time to source the suede as well because I wanted to match the liner of the purse as much as possible.
