Mission Scranton

Our last teen ministry night for the college school year, Pastor Curtis at New Life Baptist Church concluded our series in Luke with a hope-filled message on the resurrection of Jesus Christ! One of our new Scranton students never heard about the resurrection of Jesus from the dead until that night. Keep on praying for our students to place their faith in the empowering hope that Jesus has to offer them, a chance to be raised from spiritual death to true spiritual life. In two more weeks, we will begin our summer ministry journey!

It’s hard to believe that tomorrow will be the last day of our school year ministry season! We are so proud of our 40+ team members who entered the inner-city of Scranton to love and serve the students from the summer of 2020 until now. The Mission Scranton family will miss our college graduates and student volunteers who will be gone for the summer. We plan to take a breather and prepare to kick-off our summer ministry season in 2 weeks! We are excited to see what God does this summer!

This is moment of being together reminds us that the faithful hard work of our ministry teams and the generous support from our ministry partners for the past year has all been worth it. It wasn’t easy this past year, but it was worth it. With the schools going online for over a year, we became one of the only places where our students connected with others and spent time with their friends. One student wrote a note to the volunteers back in December at the Christmas party... saying, Thank you leaders for making this happen. Thank you volunteers and partners for making this happen.

Gotta love going to McDonald’s for lunch after church and eating outside in the neighborhood! The sunshine has us excited for our upcoming summer ministry and opportunities to build new relationships! Please pray for us as we put together a summer ministry team and pray for our students and families. Prayer is no menial spiritual task. We were reminded of that from this morning’s Steamtown Church message in Mark 9 when the disciples could not cast out a demon from a boy. Jesus told them, This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer. We too cannot bring life change to this community without praying by faith in Jesus to accomplish that change through our obedient efforts.

It’s been a team effort to pursue this goal and need as we had many of you praying, giving, fundraising, sharing, and encouraging throughout the process. THANK YOU!
