When people talk about bullies the one comment that is often heard is that a bully tends to be a coward. But here are some things that bullies aren't afraid of: 1- Police, school officials, and adults in general. Any "trouble" they get threatened with or even actually get in only adds to their reputation that they are a "tough" guy/girl. 2-Threats of physical violence. Most of the time they are threatened its by an individual that is over 18. The average school bully is under... 18 and sees that fact as their shield. They will even flaunt it. The list goes on but you can see where I am going with this. That said there is one thing that the average bully tends to stay clear of. People that stand up to him/her. Bullies don't want to fight so they find victims that won't give them any resistance and they are experts at finding these people. That said it seems to me that the one person that can stop a bullys from bullying is the victims themselves. And with the correct guidance these potential "victims" become the vehicle of their own salvation. I will be conducting an Anti-bully workshop on Monday March 2nd at the Frackville Fitness Center. The FFC is located at Oak & Center Sts. We will start at 7:30pm and go until 9pm. WHO IS THIS PROGRAM FOR? This program is for anyone that has been the victim of bullying 1st grade thru 12th. Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay and observe. WHAT WILL BE TAUGHT? A simple and effective ABC formula: A- Awareness/Avoidance Skills. This is the first line of defense. Learn the simple techniques employed by security professionals from bouncers to bodyguards to keep something from happening before it starts. B- Boundary Setting Skills. Here participants are taught how to use body language and their voice to de-escalate a potentially violent situation. C- Combat Skills. Participants will be taught simple easy to remember techniques that are effective and easily utilized. HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAM? This will be an ongoing program and will last as long as the need for it exists. WHAT IS THE COST? $5 a class. The money will be used to pay for the room and to purchase equipment that will help enhance the training. WHO IS TEACHING? The head instructor is Bob Cook. He has been involved in martial arts for 52 years with training in Karate, Judo, Jiu jitsu, Silat, & Escrima. Cook has spent much of his professional life working as a bouncer, bodyguard, private investigator and asset protection specialist. He is the founder of the Daishizen Koken Ha Goju Ryu Tode Martial Art System and the HARD Target Program. For further information or to register call 570-590-9851
