Public Notice: The Mount Carmel Police Department is currently in transition and moving into our new station at 30 West Third Street. During this transition the phone lines, fax lines and other technologies like email will not be able to be used until completely installed at the new location. There will be a time delay in officers getting voicemails and emails until we are fully operational. Sorry for the inconvenience. There will not be a delay in emergency responses or request for assistance that are dispatched by the Northumberland County 911 Center.
The Mount Carmel Borough Police Department in conjunction with the Northumberland-Montour County Drug Task Force along with The US Drug Enforcement Administration will again participate in The National Take-Back Initiative. Located at The Mount Carmel Borough Police Department, 137 West Fourth Street, Mount Carmel, Pa. 17851, residents can bring outdated, unused medications to our collection site where they will be collected and destroyed. The event will be Saturday, April 24..., 2021, from 10 am to 2 pm. Please note that we cannot accept liquids, aerosols, and syringes but, will accept tablets, capsules, etc.
Mayor Philip Cimino has declared a snow emergency for the Borough of Mount Carmel effective Wednesday 2/17/21 at 12:00 AM until Friday 2/19/21 at 12:00 AM. Please be cautious of Penn DOT and Local plow operations throughout Borough streets. Please refrain from parking on Oak Street so that Penn DOT can plow curb to curb. If you reside close to a fire hydrant please help the fire dept. by clearing the snow around the hydrants. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Public Notice: Mount Carmel Borough is continuing snow removal throughout the Borough today. Heavy equipment has been brought in to remove snow piles, widen and open streets. The Street Department request that if you see any equipment working in your immediate area to make all attempts to remove your vehicle from the area so the street can be cleaned properly. The more vehicles that move the more areas can be cleaned which makes it easier on everyone.

Date: 12/15/20 Re: State of Emergency Mount Carmel Mayor Phillip Cimino has a declared a State of Emergency starting at 12:00 PM Wednesday, December 15th and ending Friday, December 17th at 6:00 PM. The impending storm is predicated to impact Mount Carmel Borough with extensive snowfall with approx. 12 inches or more.... All already posted snow emergency routes are to have no parking so snow can be removed without obstruction. Anyone living near a fire hydrant is asked to assist with removing snow from around the hydrant area for better access for the fire department. The Mount Carmel Police Department is currently investigating a hit and run incident that occurred on December 14th, 2020, between the hours of 4-5 am in the 00 block of North Hickory Street. The acting vehicle struck another parked vehicle which caused significant damage. The acting vehicle may be a Subaru dark gray in color with damage to the passenger side front. Anyone with information is asked to call 570-339-6020.

Update: The Owners have been found. We thank everyone for your help! These two dogs were found in the area of West Third Street. If anyone recognizes these pups, please call the Mount Carmel Borough Police Department at (570) 339-6020 so we can get them home.
Public Notice: As a reminder to all. The Mount Carmel Borough Street Sweeper willing operating for the month of June and violations/tickets will be issued to those that do not move in the prescribed area and times.
Public Notice: Starting today Mount Carmel Borough Police will be instituting aggressive parking enforcement within the Borough. We handled these incidents on a case by case reactive basis prior but several complaints and issues are occurring and this is a result of those complaints and issues. Tickets will be issued to all offending vehicles to include Bus Zones, Double Parked, Block Garage, Blocked Street(secondary included) No parking Zones, Fire Zones, Parked Against Traf...fic. An aggressive abandoned vehicle campaign will also be proactively enforced to include both on roadway and on private property. Any vehicles in violation will be cited and towed away accordingly. Both PA State Vehicle code law and Mount Carmel Borough Ordinances will be followed. It is asked that all residents park legally, remove any unwanted or usable vehicles from the street and their properties.
Mount Carmel Police Department is investigating thefts from unlocked vehicles during the overnight hours. We are attempting to identify the suspect that is in the attached videos. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and kept confidential. Contact the Police Department at 570-339-6020, Extension 13. As always remember to lock your vehicles at all times.
Public Notice: The Mount Carmel Borough Street Sweeper will return to operation on May 1st, 2020. The sweeper will follow the already posted schedule. The Borough and Police Department understand the need for additional parking under the current circumstances and time frame that the sweeper operates but ask that all residents and vehicle owners cooperate with moving their vehicle.
Public Notice: March 25th, 2020 Street sweeping for Mount Carmel Borough is cancelled for the month of April. Vehicles do not need to be moved and no tickets will be issued. The sweeper will resume May 1st, 2020 and follow the advertised route.
Update: Public Notice As of Friday 03/20/20 the Recreation Facilities for Mount Carmel Borough will be closed to public use. This includes the Tot Lot, Nates Mates playgrounds along with the recreation complex and soccer complex. The Town Park is open to pass through foot traffic and no gatherings of people will be permitted. This is to coincide with the Coronavirus and the precautions that go along with that. Sorry for the inconvenience but it is in the interest of the health and safety of everyone.
Date: 3/16/2020 With the interest of Employee and Public Safety all Mount Carmel Borough Offices including the Municipal Authority will be CLOSED to the PUBLIC until further notice starting on 3/17/2020. Employees will still be reporting for work and can be reached via phone to answer any questions and to make any arrangements for any payments necessary. ... The Mount Carmel Borough Police Department is investigating a series of vehicle break ins that occurred around 2130 hours to 2300 hours on November 22, 2019. Three males are observed on the video breaking into vehicles. Anyone with any information in regards to the suspects is urged to contact the police department 570-339-6020 or the Northumberland County Communications Center 570-648-3868. UPDATE; the three individuals have been taken into custody this morning and are in the Custody of Northumberland County Juvenile Probation Dept. Also if anyone has had items removed from their vehicles overnight please contact the PD to describe what was taken. We still have items in our possession that we believe to be stolen.
Vehicle Break in(s)
Mount Carmel Borough Police is asking for any information on the driver of the UTV and or owner related to hit and run incident in the 500 Block of East Avenue. The video is not the best in clarity but it is obvious the driver of the UTV knows the vehicle was struck before fleeing. Any information shall remain confidential. Contact the MCPD at 570-339-6020 Ext. 13 with any information.
Timothy F. Chrisman, 105 West Girard Street, Atlas is charged by Mount Carmel Police with Conspiracy, Theft, Receiving Stolen Property, Theft from a Vehicle and Loitering and Prowling at Nighttime for his involvement in a theft of $210.00 cash and a 380 Caliber Ruger Pistol on June 5th into June 6th, 2019. The theft occurred in the 300 Block of West Avenue in Mount Carmel Borough during the nighttime hours. . He was incarcerated in Northumberland County Jail in lieu of $80,000 bail. He was arraigned via Honorable District Judge Diehl of Milton this afternoon. Other charges are expected to be filed on Chrisman along with a juvenile accomplice.
These are still photographs of the suspects in the theft from vehicle reports that occurred last night. As you can see they are not very clear. We are working on enhancing the photographs and are working on processing several videos of the suspects.
