Mount Joy R/C Club 16.01.2021

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and I'm looking forward to another great flying season in 2021 .

Fellow flyers , It's getting harder and harder to guess which day would be the best for our weekly fun-fly . But, Friday appears to be the best day this week to have a get-together . At 10am the winds should be 5mph or less with no rain in the forecast and a temperature of 50 degrees and the wind should be straight down the runway from west to east ( that's left to right for those without a degree in compass ) . Bob Adams, if you're coming out and want to bring coffee aga...in I'll not bring any . Bob English , or anyone else, donuts are much appreciated ! As some of you witnessed last week , I crashed my primary plane, the old Sig LT-25 . I had the elevator servo stop functioning in the up position just after take-off and no way of moving it using the transmitter . I have four new servos ordered . The servo that failed was a Hitec HS-5485HB . It even functioned normally at home using my servo cycler I use to set the servos up on my new planes . It could have been a myriad of components that failed from slight corrosion in the connector causing loss of signal of the connector's pins had stretched . Just too many variables to nail down a for sure condition . No one was hurt or vehicles hit . Just some broken balsa to get replaced or repaired . It will fly again ! I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving . We celebrated last Saturday but called it a funeral for Mr.Thomas Turkey . You can invite more people to a funeral than you can to a family get-together like Thanksgiving . Mike

Fellow flyers , It looks like Friday's weather might turn out to be good for flying after-all . As of now the temperature at 9am will be 48 degrees with winds at 1mph blowing from northwest to southeast straight down the runway . No excuses for even you jet jockeys ! As usual Mark has the grass in tiptop shape . Has the field looked better ? He also applied the second round of fertilizer which will make a better flying field in the Spring . ... I will be performing random safety checks of planes at the field . So be prepared to take those wings off so we can check things out to ensure no accidents happen and no one gets injured . See everyone tomorrow morning . Mike

Fellow flyers , It looks like the old weatherman switched days on us . The original fun-fly day was to be this Thursday but now the forecast is for rain in the morning . So let's switched to Friday as it will be only be partially overcast in the morning with low winds , See you guys Friday .... Mike

Fellow flyers , This past week's Wednesday's fun-fly , wasn't ! Just too cold and colder . No wind though ! Only Warren and I showed up and we both called it quits just about time for Warren to go to lunch . You can darned near set your clock to his lunch time . He leaves the field at 10:45 to make it to lunch by 11:00 where he can choose between a late breakfast or an early lunch . He likes choices in his life ! He must be a Hobbit ! As to this coming week's fun-fl...y it appears, as of now, that Wednesday will be pretty good . The 7am temperature of 42 degrees with 2mph wind speed should work for most of us . It's supposed to warm up to 63 degrees by 2pm but with increased winds , up to 8mph , will accompany it . Jim Messina has threatened to bring his awesome Chili one of these days but I haven't been able to nail down a firm date yet . See some of you then, I'm sure . Saturday was another good flying day . Warm temperatures and very little wind . We had a pretty good showing in the afternoon ( after Warren returned form lunch ) . Mark had done a great job on mowing the field at three different lengths, all in the same pass . The mower deck's spindle assemblies need to be replaced . Dollars are involved . Which reminds me, have you renewed your AMA and paid your club dues yet ? No Safety issues to report . We've been doing a good job of being and acting safely . Thank you ! Mike

Okay flyers, I seems that the weather did not cooperate today . I showed up at 7:30am and the misting stopped around 9am . I managed to fly three batteries worth and Warren showed up around 10am . We said our hello's and Warren said he might come back out in the afternoon if the sun came out . We both left around 10:30 . I doubt that he came out because it stayed overcast the remainder of the day . I was at home repairing Jay's broken plane all afternoon . So I checke...d the weather forecast and the next good day for flying looks like Saturday . The wind will be around 3mph but the temperature is only going to be 36 degrees with partially overcast clouds . By noon the clouds should be gone and the temperature warming up to 42 degrees ! Balmy . Come on out and enjoy the fellowship of flyers who should be at home in a nice warm house but are too stubborn to not go flying ! Have you renewed your AMA membership yet ? If you have, show proof to Mark or me and then we'll get after you to pay your 2021 club dues . Mike

Fellow club members , I think our nice warn flying days are behind us now and the cold days are here for at least the next six months . Not a good thought to maintain a positive attitude ! This coming week's weather is both good and bad . It's good in that Wednesday will have no rain and very little wind . Bad in that it will be overcast in the morning and only partially clearing later in the day Wednesday . The remainder of the week looks to be rainy . Tuesday looks to b...e partially sunny but with higher winds . See you guys Wednesday . Mike
