Today the Mount Joy Township trash hauler, Penn Waste, faced a very dangerous situation while picking up trash. Muriatic acid, used to clean concrete, was placed in with household trash by a resident on Ridge Road. This was then compressed in the trash truck and began smoking. Clean up involved hazmat, fire departments and EMS personnel. Fortunately, no one was injured! This was an extremely dangerous and costly situation. Do not put anything in the trash that you are not sure about. When in doubt, take it to Lancaster County Solid Waste. Thank you in advance for keeping our trash haulers and other residents safe. Below is a list of items that must always be taken down to Lancaster County Solid Waste for disposal.
