Today is the third Sunday of the Easter season. With it, I reflect on one irrefutable aspect of the resurrection stories. Something that holds true whether you believe them or not, whether you're a Christian or an atheist, an agnostic or a skeptic. It can be summed up in two words: Rome lost.

On this day in history, Jesus got up but Martin Luther King got shot down. Together, these two events provide us with an Easter spiritual reality check.

A Lenten question for the Church: what's important to us? Growing the Church? Or changing our world?

We are now in the third week of Lent, and I focus again on the question of self-reflection, "What has this past year of the pandemic shutdown taught us about ourselves?" I ask, especially, what has it taught The Church about ourselves?"

Happy Lent, the Christian season of self-reflection, self-sacrifice, and repentance. It's been a week since Ash Wednesday, the day Christians remind ourselves of our own mortality. I discuss a personal struggle of faith I had this past week over a prominent celebrity's mortality that day.

Happy beginning of Lent, that Christian season of repentance, self-sacrifice, self-denial, and self-reflection. All good stuff, though it might not sound that way upfront. I'll explain why it's my favorite time of the year.
