40 Days of Giving Day 9 Even before the COVID 19 pandemic, the rate of hunger around the world was on the rise after a decade of decline. Now, forecasts warn that hunger and poverty could increase with nearly unprecedented speed. A gift to fight world hunger can make a difference.

40 Days of Giving Day 8 Gracious and loving God, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, you bring light and life for all the world. Help us to listen, learn and love until your light and life fill every community. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

40 Days of Giving Day 6 and 7 Being the church will require a definition of community that is more expansive, more diverse, more beautiful than we may imagine. Day 5 of 40 Days of Giving Read and reflect on Mark 1:9-15.

Day 4 of 40 Days of Giving Longing for food, many are hungry. Longing for water, many still thirst. Make us your bread. Broken for others, shared until all are fed. Christ be our light.

ASH WEDNESDAY; FEBRUARY 17, 2021. "By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return." {Genesis 3:19} "Tamar put ashes on her head and tore the ornate robe she was wearing ....." {2 Samuel 13:19} ... "When Mordecai learned of all that had been done, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, ......" {Ester 4:1} "Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with it as he sat among the ashes." {Job 2:8} "So I turned to the Lord and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes." {Daniel 9:3} "Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry." {Matthew 4:1-2} Lent is just around the corner and this year is going to be different, we are not going to have Shrove Tuesday dinner but we are going to have Ash Wednesday service at 5:30pm. Ashe Wednesday marks the start of Lent leading us to Easter, Ashes on our foreheads symbolize both death and repentance. During this period we Christians, we show repentance and mourning for for our sins. The 40 days of Lent are connected with the 40-day fast that Jesus fasted in the wilderness and was tempted by the devil.
