Divorce can be a complex puzzle, but this form of dispute resolution can help spouses put the pieces together.

During this crisis, I believe that attorneys have a duty to ensure, to the safest extent possible, that the wheels of justice remain moving. Now is the time for practitioners to resolve their clients’ disputes through electronic document exchange, video and phone conferencing, and other remote forms of communication. If anything good comes of this pandemic, let it be that we as attorneys learn to take a more conciliatory and collaborative approach in resolving disputes between our clients.

I pride myself on putting children first in any family law dispute.

A beautiful little 8 year old girl whose parents are going though a custody dispute was asked if she could have one wish, what would it be. The little girl got teary-eyed and said "I wish my parents could be friends." To all parents involved in a custody dispute: you don't have to necessarily be friends with your ex, but you don't have to be enemies either. Exposing your children to love, acceptance, and tolerance of others, instead of hostility, friction, and conflict, will benefit your children immensely while also doing wonders for your custody case.

Going through a divorce or custody dispute can be the most emotionally draining and gut-wrenching time in someone's life. I often tell clients: I know that you are looking out the window, it is gloomy, you see dark clouds, rain, thunder, lighting, strong winds, and it looks like the end of the world. But I guarantee you - the sun will rise again one day. To all those going through these difficult times, hang in there - life will get better.

I've noticed in the last couple years I've represented more and more men who have pursued a claim for custody of a child that was not biologically theirs. In other words, they stood "in loco parentis" to that child. I hope that is a trend that continues. There are far too many children who grow up unloved and unwanted by the men who "fathered" them. When a man is willing to obligate himself in every way to a child whose biological father has failed him or her, he gets much respect from me.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court, just this past week, dealt what appears to be a substantial blow to the ability of grandparents to file for periods of partial physical custody of their grandkids. I'm not so sure how I feel about this decision. Read more here: http://www.pacourts.us//o/Supreme/out/j-53-2016mo-rev1.pdf

I am still surprised at how many family court litigants want their lawyers to be mean and nasty to their spouse and his/her attorney. Some litigants don't even want their lawyer shaking hands with or being cordial to opposing counsel. I tell all my clients this: my job is to get the best outcome for you that I can, and I truly believe that you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar. I wish more lawyers shared that viewpoint.

The good lawyer is not the man who has an eye to every side and angle of contingency and qualifies all his qualifications, but he who throws himself on your part so heartily that he can get you out of a scrape.
