The cup is half full; the phone is gone. I am back, after 2 years with a cell phone, to being one of the only people you know without one. While I am happily enjoying life’s basics, I currently have little means of communication with the outside world. Please bear with me while I get this sorted out. Until I get to my office computer (soon), I am also not sure if I am locked out of my google account.... So, try e-mail: [email protected] or my google voice number: 845-418-6257 and I will likely get the message soon. I have access to instagram and likely will soon to facebook. I will announce a land line number soon. Appointments can still be made through Worker Bee Community Acupuncture, but with pandemic adjustments Robin is working fewer hours at the office and has additional juggling to do with scheduling - possibly resulting in slower response time than normal. If you would like to try an old fashion method, consider finding me in person at the family farm (106 Whitmore Road; Damascus, PA) or at the cabin in Glen Spey, NY (White Road - home of the herbal apprenticeship). #catskillherbalapprenticeship #matcha # #herbalism #backtotheearth #herbalapprenticeship #herbalretreat #kampo #chineseherbalmedicine #nativeamericanmedicine #folkmedicine #macrobiotics #ethnobotany #thewayoftea #thewayofherbs

Herbal Apprenticeship Program in Glen Spey, NY Here we were looking at White Pine bark. White Pine is a superb medicinal and is the sacred tree of life of the ...Iroquois Six Nations. The apprenticeship focuses on ethnobotany because I am not the average herbalist. Rather than look to chemical analysis and modern hype/theory to understand medicinal herbs, the apprenticeship explores the energetic (vitalistic) systems of Native American medicine, Chinese herbal medicine, and early American folk medicine. In order to learn about the plants, we spend time with the plants (identifying, harvesting, cooking, medicine-making...) and study those traditions that come from first-hand experience with the plants. There are certain unique characteristics of Native American medicine and of Chinese medicine. There are also threads of the same material running through both systems. The apprenticeship explores the unique practices of these systems and focuses as well on the connecting threads. Through this study, herbalists can come to a deeper understanding of the herbs that surround us. It is funny that when I first posted this picture last year, I received many concerned comments about the impact of harvesting bark off of a tree. Let me assure you that my version of herbalism first pays respect to the plants that nature provides. This is why we study in the forest, living close to the plants. Developing your understanding of herbs is developing your relationship to the herbs. How can you understand Pine bark when your hands have never become sticky from the pitch? In this modern world, people are still turning to the herbs for help. As with all things, one will find the truth in first-hand experience. This is the zen of herbal medicine. www.nathanielwhitmore.com/herbal-apprenticeship.html
