Butterfly weed is very beneficial for pollinators, like butterflies. Did you know that a popular butterfly plant, the butterfly bush, isn’t that beneficial at a...ll? Butterfly weed acts as a host plant for butterfly larvae, something the invasive butterfly bush fails to do! https://bit.ly/2SjRoqa Without a native food source, populations of butterflies can suffer. If you want to help out these pollinators, be sure to plant native butterfly weed! #PANativePlants #iConservePA
Here's an excellent informational page with some important local turtle-related resources and websites, courtesy of tonight's speaker Mrs. Jean Sinal! See you at 6pm!
"The Fascinating Lives of Pennsylvania Turtles- Ecology and Conservation" In Pennsylvania we have 14 different species of turtles. Some live on land (terrestri...al), some live in water (aquatic), and some live on land and in water (semi-aquatic). Pennsylvania also has some turtles that are threatened or endangered. Come and meet some of these animals and learn about threats to their survival. Join Mrs. Jean Sinal for this virtual nature talk on Thursday, May 6th, at 6:00 pm! Order your meal at Allegheny Creamery and Crepes (814-696-5055 or on Chownow) on Thursday, May 6th to enjoy while you watch the presentation on the Science Cafe: Cosmic Cocktails Facebook page. The restaurant will donate 20% of ALL the day's sales to the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library! Prepare your questions! The program will include a virtual question and answer session with Mrs. Sinal. Cosmic Cocktails is a program of the Saint Francis University Science Outreach Center.

Happy Easter from Centre Wildlife Care! This weekend we've received several little Easter bunnies in need of care. If you find a bunny nest in your yard, you ...can put a basket over the nest during the day to protect it from dogs and cats and take off at night so mama can feed. Since the bunnies have no smell, you cannot move the nest because mama won't be able to find them. Mama only comes to feed at night, so you may not see her. If one is injured or caught by a dog or cat, then they need medical attention and need to go to a rehabber. If you're not sure, give us a call. Our Easter gift to you, is we will be here to help you if you need it on Easter Sunday. 814-692-0004 #easter #bunny #rabbit #centrewildlifecare #centralpa #wildliferehabilitation #wildliferehab #wildlife #babyseason #babyanimals
Interested in backyard chickens? Join PennState Extension for hatching school!
With the start of trout season this weekend, many will be headed out to Pennsylvania lakes and streams. We ask that anglers help to leave their fishing spots... the same as or even better than they found them. Stay safe, leave no trace, and have a happy trout season! #KeepPABeautiful #LeaveNoTrace
From our friend - Alice with Fort Roberdeau Bluebird Trail. Thanks Alice.
Day one of the Fall Food Fest at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center is almost over! Stop by this evening, or Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM to 6... PM in the North Lot to taste #PAAgriculture. The fest includes some PA Farm Show favorites such as Pennsylvania fried mushrooms, PA Dairymen's Association milkshakes on Saturday and Sunday, Pennsylvania Livestock Association sandwiches, and Pennsylvania honey products; and #PAPreferred Marketplace vendors as well as some tasty food truck selections. Parking is free, masks are required, and our taste buds are watering.
What better way to spend a rainy lunch hour than by photographing rainy subjects at a local park. Mostly flower seed heads, some leaves, and interesting trees ...- with lots of raindrops. Included some more photos of the eye-catching surprise I spotted while walking to the car - the snazzy wheel bug. See more
This is a fantastic photo of a wheel bug at NWP. Thanks for sharing Karen Smith!
This is a great post from Rails to Trails partners. We see eagles over the Park too.
There’s no need to rake up all the leaves in your yard! Leaving some on the ground is not only good for wildlife, but your yard and garden as well. Check out some more tips #iConservePA #FallinPA #PAFallFoliage
Leave the Leaves! Wildlife, bees, birds... rely on leaf litter for food, shelter... Moth & butterfly caterpillars winter in leaves emerging in spring.
Ethan Shanafelt took on a huge project to become an Eagle Scout. He showed leadership with younger scouts when constructing and attaching the osprey platform to the telephone pole. His ability to coordinate each piece of this project came together today when Tel Power placed the Osprey Platform in the ground at NatureWorks Park. Thank you Ethan for all of your hard work and dedication making this idea become a reality! And thank you to Tel Power for your time and equipment.
