Another great Food Truck Friday! Next month marks our year anniversary of doing this. Fundraisers for our small company, tucked back on a side street in a littl...e neighborhood, are hard to come by, so we have an all hands on deck approach to generating what we need to keep doors open and trucks on the road. So when our community comes out to support us? Well... we are psyched and grateful. Thanks for your continued love. See more

Today, we remember and honor the 2,403 United States citizens who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941, which led to the United States declaring war on Japan the next day and thus entering World War II. You are not forgotten!

1 WEEK AWAY! Although we are continuing with tradition and hosting our annual Christmas Float, there will be some changes made. Unfortunately, due to COVID rest...rictions, nobody will be allowed to board the float this year. The float will be designed to allow optimal space along the sides to allow everyone to grab photos with Santa, but we do ask that social distancing is maintained to keep everyone safe. In addition, the officers and members will no longer be handing out candy canes either. We do apologize for these inconveniences but in order to keep the tradition alive, these are the guidelines we must follow. As of right now, the float will be begin its trip on the same timeline as previous years, starting out at 1030 on Saturday. The Float route will be posted below! If there are any changes to the schedule, we will update via this page.

Over the past week, the Police Department has received many phone calls, emails, messages on our social media accounts and calls for service from residents complaining about fireworks. Many have referenced Township Ordinance 141-2, requiring a permit for fireworks. This ordinance only applies to commercial grade fireworks and not to consumer grade fireworks. Fireworks Facts House Bill 542 was signed into law on October 30, 2017. Under the new law, the Fireworks Act of 1939 ...was repealed and replaced in its entirety. The complete version of the new law can be viewed here. However, the questions and answers below highlight the most noteworthy changes. Which fireworks are Pennsylvania residents now allowed to purchase and use? Consumers can now purchase and use Class C or consumer-grade fireworks that include firecrackers, Roman candles, bottle rockets, and similar fireworks that contain a maximum of 50 milligrams of explosive material. The expansion includes those fireworks that were previously only available to out-of-state residents. Display fireworks, which are classified as including salutes that contain more than two grains or 130 milligrams of explosive materials, and professional-grade aerial shells containing more than 60 grams of pyrotechnic compositions, are still only to be used by professionals with a permit from the municipality where the display will take place. Who can purchase fireworks? Anyone 18 years of age or older can purchase them. What are the restrictions on where they can be used? They cannot be ignited or discharged on a public or private property without express permission of the property owner. They cannot be discharged from or within a motor vehicle or building. They cannot be discharged toward a motor vehicle or building. They cannot be discharged within 150 feet of an occupied structure, whether or not a person is actually present. They cannot be discharged while the person is under the influence of alcohol, a controlled substance, or another drug. Many of the fireworks calls for service that we have responded to and investigated, were found to have originated outside of the Nether Providence Township borders, in Ridley Township, the City of Chester and the Borough of Brookhaven, all of which we have no jurisdiction to take any enforcement action. However, those jurisdictions have been notified of the complaint. If you have a complaint about fireworks, please call 911 and the police will respond to the area and investigate the complaint. If the fireworks are being set off in violation of any of the above restrictions in accordance with the state law, the violators may be cited. In addition, Nether Providence Township does have a noise ordinance that can be used as a means of enforcement, but the ordinance only covers excessive noise between the hours of 10:00pm-7:30am. Violators may be cited for violating the ordinance.

Meet Barbara Munn! A Nether Providence Twp. resident and a recent graduate of Strath Haven high school. Her uncle Charles had sent a letter to our department stating that I had made an impact in her young life at some point. He was nice enough to invite me to come see her and talk. Barbara is now attending Penn State Brandywine campus where she will major in Human development and Family studies and she will be taking the field for Penn State to play soccer. Congratulations Barbara, keep shooting for the stars!!!

Congratulations to Strath Haven High School’s class of 2020. In a year filled with disappointment and adversity, not even a driving rain storm was able to stop your celebration parade. It was so great to see the entire community come out in such adverse conditions to send you off. It was our honor to escort your parade through the community. Everything that you’ve confronted and have successfully over come will definitely prepare you for the challenges in life. #PantherPride, #HavenProud Wallingford-Swarthmore School District

This afternoon at 12:39pm, the Nether Providence Police Department, the two Township Fire Companies, Garden City and South Media, along with five neighboring fire companies responded to the 600 block of Morris Lane in the Wallingford section of the Township, for a house fire with subjects trapped. Upon arriving, one of the residents, a 72-year-old male was found in the driveway and indicated that his 69-year-old brother was still trapped inside the house on the second floor.... The firefighters were able to ascend to the second floor and extricated the individual from the residence. Medical personnel on the scene performed lifesaving efforts, but unfortunately the male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Nether Providence Police Department’s Detective Division, with assistance from the Township Fire Marshal, the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division, and the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal. https://6abc.com//man-killed-in-fire-after-severe/6229618/
