Congratulations, Peyton Nelson! Peyton will be attending Saint Joseph's University as a Psychology Major. #SNG2021 Why did you choose Saint Joseph's University? "I chose Saint Joseph's University because the minute I stepped on that campus, it felt like home to me. I got a similar feeling to the one I experienced four years ago at Ss. Neumann Goretti's Open House. After a closer look at all SJU had to offer academically, as well as in other areas, I knew it was the coll...ege I needed to pick." Congrats, Peyton! We are very proud of you! #GoSaints #SeniorSpotlights

Congratulations, Mya Hill! Mya will be attending West Chester University as a Psychology Major. #SNG2021 Why did you choose West Chester University? "I picked the school that was going to be a good fit to guide, support, and educate me on my journey. I know that an education and experience spent in such a special community has the potential to change my life and make an everlasting impact."... What's the most important lesson you've learned while at SNG? "Control what you can control instead of constantly trying to control everything that happens in your life - just "roll with the punches." Bad things are going to happen. Handle the situations with grace and maturity, but don't try and change the things you simply can't change." Congrats, Mya! We are very proud of you! #GoSaints #SeniorSpotlights

Congratulations, Michelle Chi! Michelle will be attending the University of Pennsylvania as a Linguistics and Computer Science Major. #SNG2021 Why did you choose the University of Pennsylvania? "I can be quite an indecisive person. If you ask me what is the one path I want to pursue, I wouldn’t be able to give you a definite answer because I have many in mind, and I would like to explore all the possibilities before I leave any regrets. Penn, with its flexible academi...c structure and many interdisciplinary opportunities, would allow me to entirely fulfill my curiosities while providing an exceptional education. It is truly a place where opportunities are unparalleled from every imaginable aspect, and I can’t be more grateful knowing that I will be able to grow in such an enriching platform. In short, I want to do many things, and Penn will surely give me many things to do. Plus, some of my closest friends will be right down the street, and I have to say: I love the Koi fish they have on campus." What's the most important lesson you've learned while at SNG? "Don’t feel burdened to be surface-level perfect, conforming to unnecessary standards defined by others. Chances are, you are more capable and perfect than you think you are. Take your time for self-discovery and learn what you can become. Also, sleep is a luxury you might want to cherish." Congrats, Michelle! We are very proud of you! #GoSaints #SeniorSpotlights

Ss. John Neumann and Maria Goretti High School 08.02.2021

Congratulations, Christa Ricks! Christa will be attending Millersville University. #SNG2021 What are your career aspirations? "I am interested in becoming a physical therapist as well as majoring in business. As a student-athlete, I have had injuries and therapy sessions that have sparked my curiosity in the field. I find myself very intrigued with how the body heals and the steps needed to improve overall strength, endurance, and movement. My end goal is to have my o...wn business where I can encourage and be a part of the improvement of athletes' physical health during rehabilitation." What's the best decision you've made while at SNG? "The best decision I’ve made was to embrace happiness and keep a positive attitude." Congrats, Christa! We are very proud of you! #GoSaints #SeniorSpotlights

Happy New Year! Today, we also celebrate the Solemnity of Mary and World Day of Peace. Pope Francis tells us: "At the beginning of a new year, the Church invites us to contemplate Mary's divine maternity as an icon of peace." As you ring in the new year, consider this Prayer for Peace: "To the Queen of Peace, the Mother of Jesus Christ, I entrust my urgent prayer for all humanity at the beginning of the year . . . to which we look with hearts full of hope, notwithstanding th...e dangers and difficulties that surround us. May Mary show us, in her Son, the Way of peace, and enlighten our vision, so that we can recognize Christ's face in the face of every human person, the heart of peace!" The Faculty & Staff of Ss. Neumann Goretti wish you and your family a joyful and peaceful 2021!

This month we lost two members of our school community who gave so much of their time, talent, treasure, and spirit to us - Mr. Tony DiToro and Mr. Tom Sprague. Mr. Tony DiToro officially taught part-time in our music department in recent years through the fall of 2019. Beyond his official position, Tony volunteered in a myriad of ways to support the music program such as instrument repair. He was also known to make a mean pizzelle and would drive a Uhaul truck full of instr...uments to graduation if needed! https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/inquirer/obituary.aspx Mr. Tom Sprague passed this week. He volunteered for many years at Neumann and Neumann Goretti in many capacities for the athletic and maintenance departments. The numbers of hours of service are only challenged by the number of stories about Tom. You can’t know Neumann Goretti without having known Tom! https://memorials.pennsylvaniaburialcompany.com//index.php May their souls Rest In Peace.

In today's #ThrowbackThursday we share photos from the Ring Mass and Dance at St. John Neumann High School. Can you guess the year?

Today's #TeacherTuesday Spotlight shines on Mr. Arrigo from our Science Department! After earning his B.S. in Bioengineering from Temple University, Mr. Arrigo, a proud alumnus of Ss. Neumann Goretti, returned to his alma mater as a teacher in the Fall of 2018. In addition to teaching Physics 1, AP Physics, and Biology, Mr. Arigo is also a member of the SNG Pandemic Team, where he helps design and maintain protocols to keep our Saints community safe and healthy. We asked Mr. Arrigo "What's your favorite lesson to teach?" His response: "My favorite lesson to teach is motion in physics (position, speed, velocity, and acceleration) because it relates to engineering, which is one of my hobbies."

Neumann Goretti alumni from Southeast Catholic, Bishop Neumann, St. John Neumann, or St. Maria Goretti who live and work in Pennsylvania or are retired and owe state taxes on your assets, holdings, stocks, mutual funds, etc. - you can charitably donate your tax dollars to Ss. Neumann Goretti and reduce your tax liability by up to 90%! The Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program enables you to tell the state lawmakers where you want YOUR tax dollars spent. As our school reopened in September, students in all grade levels analyzed the poem Still I Rise by Maya Angelou in their English classes. Students reflected on how they are similar to the speaker in Angelou’s poem as she continues to overcome and rise above - just as Saints do! SNG embraces Still I Rise by Maya Angelou as our students continue to rise above all of the challenges they face this year. We celebrate our diversity, empowered by Ms. Angelou’s words throughout... our hallways. As shown in the pictures below, our hallways are filled with reminders of how we continue to rise above and overcome! Thank you to our English Department Head, Ms. Sackawicz, for assisting all of our Saints in reflecting on this important matter. Thank you also to our guidance counselor, Ms. Pizzuti, as well as students: Darion Sutton ('21), Mia Messina ('21), and Alex Carrozza ('21) for creating the beautiful bulletin boards that brighten our hallways and facilitate daily reflections. #SNGStillRises

It's #TeacherTuesday! Join us each week as we shine the #TeacherTuesday Spotlight on one of our talented SNG faculty and staff members! Today we recognize a member of our English department, Ms. DiBenedetto. Ms. DiBenedetto earned her BA from Penn State University and her Masters in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. She joined the Saints family in the fall of 2019. In addition to teaching English 1, English 3, and Marketing, Ms. DiBenedetto is also the faculty le...ad for our new learning management platform, Schoology. She spent the summer attending Schoology trainings and learning about the system, and now supports our teachers in utilizing Schoology in both their virtual and in-person classrooms. We asked Ms. DiBenedetto, "What is your favorite thing about SNG students?" Her response: "My favorite thing about SNG students are their personalities. Knowing that they will come to school with something to tell me, share with me, or add to the lesson pretty much makes my job the best! Nothing beats the excitement of a student wanting to share something with their teachers that reminded them of a reading or lesson we did in class." Thank you, Ms. DiBenedetto! Forever a Saint!
