New Wilmington Mission Conference 12.07.2021

Summer Service Spotlight! Over the next few weeks, we will be highlighting the team members who will be traveling to Frontera De Christo in Arizona this summer. Next up is Sofia Na! What made you decide to interview for Summer Service? Because I grew up going to Conference, and got to see all the teams year after year, it was always an idea in the back of my head. I was at a point in my life where I was looking for an opportunity to serve. I was getting a lot of closed doors,... and when I realized the opportunity I could have to serve on the SS team, I figured I would see if God wanted to use me in this capacity. I’m so thankful it worked out! What was your reaction when you found out you had been selected? I remember the day I found out I had been selected I was in the car on the way to Valley Forge National Park to watch the sunset. I remember being surprised and then excited and then overwhelmed with thankfulness. I remember watching the sunset that night. It was a swirl of pink and purple and orange. I just sprawled out on the grass, looked up at the beautiful sky, and said a little prayer to thank God for making this world so beautiful. I was filled with hope. What have you been doing to prepare for your trip? The biggest thing I’ve been doing to prepare is journaling. I journal already just in my normal life, but I dedicate some time every time I journal to reflect on and prepare for summer service. I reflect on what it means to serve, I try to write about the ways in which I can use my gifts to better serve, and I write my prayers out for the people on the team (I’m friends with a lot of them) and how excited I am to be united with them in person. I also write out my prayers for the people we will be serving. I haven’t met them yet, but I’ve been thinking about them a lot. What are you most excited about? I am most excited about being in community with people and sharing the light of Christ within that community. Over this pandemic year, we’ve had to get creative about how we think about the body of Christ. Our understanding of community and church has changed a lot, and probably for the better. I know we’ll be masked, and probably at a distance for a lot of the trip, but I’m excited to be in community with others.

Anderson Auditorium represents NWMC in our hearts. Many past participants can point to significant moments of feeling the Spirit's presence under that domed roof. In order to preserve the Auditorium and to be a good steward of its use, the Board of Managers is exploring ways to partner with Westminster College in its care and ownership. Possibilities and details are still being explored. This new relationship will allow our focus and energy to be directed to our mission and purpose, rather than allowing our resources to be drained by physical assets and practicalities. Please pray for both the Board and the College as they explore this potential new partnership.
