LaToya Richie was born and raised in West Philadelphia. She attended Widener University and completed her undergraduate studies in Criminal Justice. She then went on to Regis University to complete a Master’s in Criminology and, later, onto Widener University School of Law to complete a Master’s in Health Law. LaToya joined NExT Philadelphia as a means to become active in the community she had been a part of her entire life. The Urban League’s national recognition drew her in... with the certainty that the issues within her community would be supported as Black citizens across the country faced the same. Through her membership, LaToya has been able to support economic and social issues impacting communities. She has built relationships with other Urban League young professional in several states. Recently, in August of 2020, LaToya attended the March on Washington with young professionals from across the country who she now considers family. Today, LaToya feels that she works every day to support the Urban League movement. According to LaToya, NExT Philadelphia is supportive, empowering and dedicated to the advancement of the Black community and she is forever grateful for the association. LaToya currently serves as our Policy & Procedures Chair. She has been recognized for the 2019-2020 President’s Distinguished achievement by the National Urban League Young Professionals and, recently, she was selected to be a part of the Fall 2020 National Urban League Congressional Advocacy Program.
The Urban League of Philadelphia welcomes the National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial to Philadelphia on Saturday, October 3rd at 10:00 am for the Reclaim Your Vote Tour. Join us as we travel across the Philadelphia region to stress the importance of voting in the African-American and Latino communities. The last few months have been particularly tumultuous for African-Americans and Latinos dealing with the triple pandemic of our health, our economy, and systemi...c racism. This tour will amplify the need to translate Protest to Power and empower everyone to #ReclaimYourVote.
